Charlie Russell Documented the West with Art - My brother suggested we would enjoy the Charlie Russell Museum in Great Falls, MT. He was certainly correct. Russell is known as the painter-historian of the West. His action-filled painters of early Western life focused on life among the settlers and Indians. He particularly enjoyed capturing action scenes, such as the Indian - Bison hunts on horseback. Exciting and realistic. His accuracy led to him being labeled a historian for the place and period. We thoroughly enjoyed the museum and will return again some day.

Great art museum - Excellent museum, great art, authentic artist ‘turn of the century’ studio. Go back in time and get a real feel for how cowboy art was made from sculptures to canvas. Log cabin art studio and home next door, this is worth the trip. I visited in 1972 for the first time and am impressed with what they have done over time. Don’t miss this!

Not to miss! - Don't miss this art museum! We are so glad that a Montana friend told us to come. We kind of knew who Charlie Russell was but had no idea of his full story and the beauty and drama of his work. We also appreciated the other art & artists discussed in the museum that provided context to C.W. Russell's work. And his wife's story too. Wow, wow, wow. Give yourself at least a couple hours and immerse yourself in the old west. But if you have less time, still go!

Real insights - This is a most excellent museum and gives you a real insight in Russell, and, of course, showcases alot of his work. In addition to main museum, you can visit Russell's house and studio where they have been carefullly preserved. There is free parking on the street around the museum in a lovely leafy suburb of Great Falls Really enjoyed ourvisit.

Good experience....need more momento type gifts. - Went to the museum...and thought it was great. There were lots of pieces from CM Russell I thought - and some that shared his style. Wished they had more CM Russell type gifts in the gift store that might be appropriate for XMAS gifts etc. Some XMAS ornaments with CMR pic on it would be nice. Just some momentos from the museum itself.

Very nice museum if you are into western arts. - This is a wonderful museum representing a number of western artists. There are many watercolors and paintings as well as bronzes. I loved the bronzes outside the museum before you go in that are out on the property. Of the painters, I actually preferred the works of Olaf Seltzer's painting, but apparently he was not as well known. Keep in mind that there are two levels of the museum. We spent to much time upstairs and missed a number of interesting exhibits on the lower level.....

Best stop in Great Falls, especially if you like Western art - Russell was a well-known western artist who made his home right here. His house and studio are available to tour, and they have built a large gallery next door. The entry of $18 was really expensive, but the place was more expansive than I would have thought. They are not all of his works, of course. They have a lot of filler from other artists, but admittedly it’s good filler. Still, the galleries were pretty open and vast, good for sitting and admiring the different artwork.
