- Goseong Unification Observatory - Situated in the northernmost region of Korea, the Unification Observatory was inaugurated in 1984, with construction commencing in 1983. It serves as the quickest vantage point to view North Korean territory, aiming to alleviate the sorrow and longing while bolstering the desire for unification. Annually, it attracts over 600,000 visitors, both domestic and international, and functions as an educational center for unification and security, offering a direct experience of the division’s reality. From the observation deck, visitors can enjoy the picturesque view of the azure East Sea and the pristine white sand beaches, including Geumgangsan Mountain’s 12,000 Peaks, Haegeumgang known as Geumgangsan Mountain on the Sea, the legendary Gamho River, and Songdo enveloped in white foam, resembling a watercolor painting. This site of division offers solace to displaced individuals who gaze upon North Korean land, unable to return to their distant hometowns.
- DMZ Museum - Established in 2009 on the northernmost civilian control line on the east coast, the DMZ Museum overlooks Geumgang Mountain. It explores the DMZ, a remnant of the Cold War, the Korean War, the historical significance of the military demarcation line and DMZ resulting from the Armistice Agreement, the ongoing military conflict, and the unique untouched ecological environment. These themes are presented through exhibits and videos. The museum aims to become a global attraction advocating for human peace, focusing on research, collection, preservation, exhibition, education, and data research to foster cultural unity and prepare for the unification of the two Koreas.
- Former Holiday Cottage of Kim Il Sung - Constructed by German H. Weber in 1938, this site was used by Kim Il-sung as a summer retreat with his wife Kim Jeong-sook, son Kim Jeong-il, and daughter Kim Kyung-hee from 1948 to 1950, and reportedly by Communist Party officials as well. Photographs taken in 1948 by a then-six-year-old Kim Jeong-il still adorn the entrance. The two-story stone building, with a basement level, was demolished and rebuilt in 1964 to serve as a recreational facility for South Korean soldiers, and later renovated in 1995 to function as an exhibition hall related to the Korean War and North Korea. It now serves as a historical and security tourist attraction.
