Additional Information

Guaranteed Sightings! Positioned in the center of historic downtown Gloucester, MA and in one of the most active parts of Gloucester harbor, 7 Seas Whale Watch provides an immersive experience. From the moment you step onto the Privateer, you will find yourself amidst the bustle of Gloucester’s vibrant waterfront. You can witness fishing boats offloading their catch, see lobster men loading and placing their traps, and possibly spot some local wildlife like Harbor and Gray seals, as well as diverse bird species. The excursion begins with cruising around Gloucester Harbor, initiating at Cape Pond Ice (familiar to many from Wicked Tuna) and concluding at the Dog Bar Breakwater. A standard trip lasts around 3-4 hours, but could extend depending on the feeding location of the whales. Although the Privateer IV has the capacity for 300 passengers, we restrict bookings to 150 to prioritize passengers’ comfort and safety. The boat features restrooms, a food galley, and a bar.

  • Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately
  • Due to unusually high fuel prices, we have had to add a $5 FUEL SURCHARGE. This surcharge will be collected at the window upon check-in for each passenger in your party. This purchase does not include the fuel surcharge.

The highlight of our trip! - The 7 Seas Whale Watch blew us away. We went on their last day of the season and got pretty lucky with what we were able to find in the wild. We were able to get right up next to two humpback whales, see multiple other humpbacks, see some porpoise and have dolphins ride in our wake, we even saw a minke whale. It was stunning. I would suggest spending your time up top, as you get the best views up there of both sides of the ship. The tour guide was very informative and made the trip feel like a true safari. Highly suggest this experience. Will definitely do this again if we are ever in the area.

One of the Best in New England! - I've lived in the area over 30 years, and I try to whale watch at least once a year, so I've gone with many different companies. The one I keep coming back to, and take guests to without question, is 7 Seas Whale Watch. Their many years of experience show in everything from the cast off the dock to the landing at the end. They Are highly ethical - strictly following laws regarding interaction - and yet work hard to get you the best views and experiences. Each whale watch is unpredictable - these are wild animals living free in the ocean - but once again, the experience 7 Seas has behind it, blended with their excellent communication with other operators and look outs almost always guarantee you'll see something wonderful. Their naturalist on board provides plenty of educational information and they don't overload the boats like some others do, making it possible to switch from side to side to get better views.

Amazing up close views and knowledgeable guide - This was worth every penny! We saw humpback whales so close to the boat, a blue fin shark, and a pod of dolphins! Our entire family was delighted. We got gorgeous photos and learned so much from the guide. The company is gentle and respectful of the habitat and the animals. My 22 year old leaned over at one point after we heard a whale sing and said, “I could die now and be happy!” We all agreed it was the trip of a lifetime.

See the whales ASAP! 2022 is a great season!!! - My first trip was in 1989 and I am still going in 2022 with the fantastic crew of 7 Seas Whale Watch. I think a whale watch trip is life changing and hope every family can make it out to Cape Ann! Our trip was a evening July 31 with pink sunset. We had a very active breaching humpback youngster and a look at the twin Rockport lighthouses. It’s so amazing over 30 years to see Spoon, one of the great humpback whales. And she has another calf in 2022. Another pair if you are lucky to find— Nile and her calf!! I wish I could go every week. I have used other companies in the area, but I prefer 7 Seas Whale Watch and love the parking area too.

Bucket List Trip - We had an amazing trip! We were able to see whales feeding, breaching and slapping the water with their fins gliding along on their back. It was absolutely breathtaking! The woman next to us had been on whale watches in Hawaii and Alaska and this trip topped both!

Spectacular second whale watch trip with 7 Seas! - We just returned to Cincinnati from a trip to Massachusetts - our second in two years - with the return visit largely to take our second trip with 7 Seas Whale Watch! Both times we've toured with this group we have been blown away the experience - it has exceeded our hopes! Yes, we saw many, many whales and other aquatic wildlife which was wonderful! But adding to the experience with this company is that the boat is SMALL and the crowds are SMALL. This matters! When the whales finally appear, you're not competing with hundreds of people, all cramming to the side of the boat to perhaps get a glimpse. You're able to see everything because there is room for everyone. It's a joy. There is a community feeling on the boat - a shared experience in which everyone is having an incredible time, ooh'ing and ahh'ing over the sights. Additionally, 7 Seas hires the BEST. The naturalists, the support staff, the woman in the cafe - ALL are incredibly warm, friendly, and completely dedicated to each person having a great experience. I learned so much about whales and customer service!! I love that the staff comes around during the cruise back to Gloucester to answer questions and get to know their passengers. Don't hesitate to book your trip with 7 Seas. The quality is second to none!

Chartered School Whale Watch - 7 Seas was very accommodating and wonderful to work with. We took 65 First Graders and their parents on a whale watch and it could not have been better! The naturalist had incredible knowledge and was great with our students. She was very age-appropriate. The crew checked in with the few people who were a bit seasick and offered help. We will definitely charter a whale watch with 7 Seas again!

Breathtaking! - Top notch!! From the start the crew was educating us about whales and making sure we were having a great time. We were able to see 3 whales & it was nothing short of breathtaking. I also was very impressed that the staff were constantly checking on the guests, especially those that were seasick. They were so caring. I highly recommend this tour!
