Highlights

Experience the thrill of rafting in New River Gorge National Park with our expertly trained guides. Navigate through class III/IV rapids and enjoy the breathtaking scenery, with a catered lunch break on the river (not offered on afternoon express trips).

Begin your day at our BaseCamp, where you’ll meet your Guide and Trip Leader. We’ll address any queries or apprehensions you have and equip every member of your group with a paddle, PFD (personal flotation device), and a helmet. During the brief bus journey to the river, we’ll cover safety protocols, give you an idea of what to anticipate, and inject a bit of fun and humor.

Once at the river, you and your group will embark on the raft with your Guide. After a couple of warm-up strokes, be prepared for the adrenaline rush of your first rapid! The national park’s landscape is truly a sight to behold, with legacies of former coal mining operations embedded in the stunning mountains and rock structures, a variety of birds including raptors, waterfowls, and possibly bald eagles.

Your river journey will culminate under the New River Gorge Bridge. The bridge was the longest single-span arch bridge globally when it was established. It spans 3000 feet in length, stands 876 feet above the river, and is the third highest bridge in America.

Family full day trip with lunch on lower new river - We had the best time! Our guide was Crock- we had a private trip ( 4 of us ) ( they make a point to do that , )the other family of 5 also had their own raft and guides- Benji and Addie . I had done research and found they have a great safety record. They have been around for years and we like to support family businesses when we can. Crock brought his speaker and played tunes as we went down the river. I was a bit nervous as I don’t swim and have fallen out of rafts in the past on other rivers. Crock assured me he would do his best to keep me in the boat- and with his many years of river guiding ( he has been at this company for 11 years and guided many years before that-) and he did keep me in the raft . I felt totally safe the whole time , we did the lower new river with lunch- the rapids were so fun!!! ( 3,4 and a couple of 5’s) We took our grandkids (13 and 14) their first time and they had a blast - ! I would highly recommend West Virginia Adventures for your white water rafting trip- they kept safety first and gave us a wonderful thrilling time!!!!

Great family rafting trip! - Really enjoyed our rafting trip! Pat was a great guide and very knowledgeable about the river and the local area in general. Their prices are very reasonable, especially compared to the other rafting companies nearby.

Fantastic Rafting Experience! - My early teen kids and I had a great trip. Going with a smaller outfitter is almost always a more personal experience! Shout out to Benji and Richard - hope y'all got the last fruit cup!

West Virginia Adventures gets an A+ - We did the “Lower New River Afternoon Express” with our family of 4. It was the first rafting experience for 3/4 of the family, and I think it was just the right length. Lots of fun, but not so long that we were exhausted at the end. Our guide Benji was fantastic (and patient). He shared lots of information about the area and kept us safe and entertained on our trip. We specifically chose this outfit because it is smaller, as we were just a group of 4. Some of the other companies seem to cater to much larger groups, and I appreciated the extra attention. Pricing was comparable with other outfits I looked at online. I definitely recommend West Virginia Adventures. If we get the chance to come back to the area, I would absolutely book with them again!

Rafting with a river master 10/10 - Wow what a great experience! Crock led us through every series of rapids with such smooth precision it felt EASY. He's been rafting this river for over 40 years, so if you want to drift in the presence of a true master, request him as your trip guide. He's got lots of entertaining stories to share too. Thanks for welcoming us into your world Crock! 'Til next time!
