Additional Information

This journey provides the chance to uncover the enchantment of the town, touring the medieval market, the city’s showpiece the Argjiro Fortress, and one of the best-maintained residences, the Zekate House. We commence at the Cerciz Topulli plaza with our local escort, heading for the Old Market and pausing at the market’s bottleneck, where we encounter some of the town craftspeople, practicing traditional techniques, and continue towards the Fortress. A sprawling castle at 2.5 hectares filled with history, calamity and folklore which the local escort will detail. You’d find yourself 330 meters above sea level, appreciating the fantastic scene of Gjirokastra, the distinct tower residences, shrouded with grey stones, typically two or three stories high. Our final stop is at the Zekate residence, a present from Ali Pasha Tepelena to his bookkeeper Beqir Zeko. The aim of this trip is for you to enjoy the distinctive, magical and hospitable ambience of Gjirokastra, beyond just witnessing the main tourist sights.

A must in Gjirokaster - The guide was very knowledgable. We had a lot of questions as 2 couples from different backgrounds(Australian and German). We especially lined the peaceful Zekate house and are still a little sorry, that we did not haf the opportunitiy to try the homemade Rakei

To be seen - City to visit with very beautiful views. The history of the country, like it or not, starts from here and unfolds from here. To be seen!

Great experience - Excellent guided walk. Our guide was a young bright Albanian named Arli. He is from a traditional family in Gjirokaster and knows a lot about the history of the country and of the city. He showed many places in the castle that other people without guides had no idea. Great experience really recommended.

Basically just a castle tour - We had to pay the entree fee on 3 different occasions, saw very little of the city. The guide was very knowledgable though.
