It features the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their respective pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. These structures were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt, between 2600 and 2500 BC. The site also includes several cemeteries and the remnants of a workers’ village.
• Giza Plateau - The Giza Plateau (Arabic: هضبة الجيزة‎) is a plateau in Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. It is the location of the Fourth Dynasty Giza Necropolis, which encompasses the Great Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex.
• Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Khufu’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, now buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been discovered, but the site remains unexcavated. The valley temple was linked to a causeway, which was largely destroyed during the village’s construction. This causeway led to the Mortuary Temple of Khufu, of which only the basalt pavement remains.
• Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre’s pyramid complex comprises a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple revealed several statues of Khafre, with many found in a well in the temple’s floor by Mariette in 1860.
• Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple once housed several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple.
• Great Sphinx of Giza - Conclude the tour with a visit to The Valley Temple, where the priests mummified the body of King Chephren. Here, visitors can enjoy a close-up view of The Sphinx, the legendary guardian with a lion’s body and the head of King Chephren, standing by the grand funeral complex. It’s a perfect spot for taking amazing photos with the Sphinx in various amusing poses, with guidance from the tour guide.
