- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - The Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) in Giza, Egypt, is the largest of the three pyramids and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Constructed around 2600 BC as the tomb of Pharaoh Khufu of the Fourth Dynasty, this pyramid is a symbol of ancient Egyptian civilization and a marvel of architectural and engineering prowess.
Standing at approximately 146 meters (481 feet), the Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest man-made structure for millennia until the steeple of Old St. Paul’s Cathedral in London was built in 1221 CE. It comprises around 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing between 2.5 to 15 tons. The precision in quarrying, transporting, and assembling these stones is a testament to ancient engineering skills.
- Pyramid of Menkaure - The Pyramid of Menkaure, also known as Mykerinos, is one of the three pyramids at the Giza site near Cairo, Egypt. Built during the Fourth Dynasty around 2515 BC, it served as the tomb for Pharaoh Menkaure.
At approximately 65 meters (213 feet) tall, the Pyramid of Menkaure is the smallest of the Giza pyramids. It is believed to have been designed by the architect Hemon, who also worked on the Pyramid of Khufu. Originally covered in smooth, polished Tura limestone, much of this outer layer has been removed, revealing the rougher inner structure. The pyramid complex includes three smaller pyramids for queen consorts and an adjacent mortuary temple.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - Also known as the Pyramid of Khafre or the Pyramid of Chefren, Khafre’s Pyramid is one of the prominent pyramids on the Giza Plateau. It is the second largest pyramid and was built as a tomb for Pharaoh Khafre, the fourth ruler of the Fourth Dynasty.
Standing at about 136 meters (446 feet), Khafre’s Pyramid is constructed from limestone blocks. Although slightly smaller than the Great Pyramid of Khufu, its higher ground location makes it appear taller. A notable feature is the remaining casing stones at its apex, with some original polished white limestone still visible near the top.
-
Great Sphinx - Located on the east side of the complex, the Great Sphinx is believed by Egyptologists to bear the likeness of Pharaoh Khafre. The site also includes smaller satellite structures known as “queens” pyramids, causeways, and valley pyramids. After the tour, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel.
-
Giza Plateau - The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, home to the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex. This includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It is the northernmost part of the 16,000-hectare Pyramid Fields in the Western Desert, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.
The plateau is about 60 meters above sea level.
