Highlights
  • Galway City Museum - The museum is our starting point, offering a fantastic view over the city, especially the Claddagh area that we will be exploring. Inside, you’ll find the world’s oldest Claddagh ring and a peculiar artifact created by the likely originator of the Claddagh ring.
  • River Corrib - We begin our walk towards the Claddagh along the river. Here, we can enjoy the stunning views of the Long Walk and learn about some of the superstitions and traditions of the Claddagh people. With any luck, we’ll also spot a traditional ‘hooker’ boat floating on Europe’s most powerful river.
  • Claddagh Arts Centre - Next, we visit a typical Claddagh cottage. Calling it ‘pretty’ or ‘quaint’ doesn’t quite capture its charm. With its red doors, thatched roof, and possibly the King’s cat lounging around, it’s perfect! Although it’s a re-creation, it helps us imagine the scene from over 100 years ago.

Please note: The property allows entry to the exterior, but the interior is usually only open for special events.

  • Eglinton Canal - Leaving the Claddagh, we wander through the ‘West’ of Galway. This authentic area is home to some great cafes. We’ll stop at one to enjoy a tea or coffee and maybe a cookie or scone (all included, of course).
  • The Legend of the Claddagh Ring - Returning to the bustling center of Galway, we visit a few places that remind us of the mythological stories surrounding the ring. We’ll also see how some of the world’s ‘A-list’ celebrities have embraced the Claddagh ring, from John Wayne to Princess Grace, JFK to Julia Roberts, and even a certain vampire… all will be revealed.
  • Quay Street - Our final stop is the relaxed setting of our Claddagh ring shop, ‘Heart in Hand.’

The tour includes a ring from the range provided by the Foxford Jewellery Company.

An extra payment is required only in the following circumstances:
a) If your desired ring (or other product) is not from the offered range. In this case, a 30 euro discount will be applied.
b) If your hand size falls outside the standard range of sizes available.
c) If you request a ‘male type’ Claddagh ring.
