- Leaving the Gulf of Gaeta behind us, we will follow the coastline accompanied by the rhythmic breath of the sea. The majestic Aragonese Castle stands proudly on a rock overlooking the sea and still seems to watch over the entrance to the Port.

At the extreme point of the promontory, the Sanctuary of Montagna Spaccata awaits us.
The characteristic chapel dedicated to the Most Holy Crucifix was built on a rock wedged between the walls of the fissure and still today it resists suspended over the deep blue sea. -
Thus we come to a small cavity on the coast, barely perceptible and little frequented… the Pozzo del Diavolo!
In ancient times this must have been a small karst cavity formed over the millennia, favored by marine erosion, but following the collapse of the top of the cave, this was given the sinister name of ‘Pozzo del Diavolo’ - Its wild soul immediately emerges from one feature: in fact, it cannot be reached on foot, not even through those secret paths that are often known only among residents. To visit it you have to get there exclusively by swimming, canoe or boat: its curious name would derive from the fact that ‘40 rowing’ are necessary starting from the nearby landings; according to another version, however, the 40 oars would be a measure of its length. This cove is usually our favorite for swimming!

We’ll commence our journey from Gaeta, taking in the view of the picturesque Aragonese Castle along the seafront. Our journey leads us towards the fascinating ‘Grotta del Turco’. Located at the farthest extremity of the headland, the Sanctuary of Montagna Spaccata awaits with its unique chapel devoted to the Holy Crucifix, carved inside a giant boulder lodged between the cliffs, hanging above the azure sea. We’ll then discover a secluded small cavity along the shore, barely noticeable and seldom visited… the Pozzo del Diavolo!
A short distance away is ‘the Cala dei 40 remi’, a place that reveals its untouched beauty owing to the fact that it can only be reached by swimming, rowing a canoe or sailing a boat.
And now it’s time for all of us to dive in for a refreshing swim!
Returning to our vehicle, a tray of fresh, seasonal fruits and a glass of prosecco will be ready to welcome you back.
Alas, it’s time to head back to the harbour.
- The snorkeling equipment that is shown in some photos is not owned by us, but belongs to the summer camp that takes part in our excursions. Therefore we will not provide that type of model.
- Please arrive 15 minutes before departure at the harbour to formalize boarding practices. No delay will be tolerated on departure scheduled for 12.
- On this private VIP tour only your group can participate up to a maximum of 12 people.
- We recommend the experience in the morning compared to the afternoon one because the sea is always calmer. In fact, it can happen that in the afternoon the sea can get agitated in a short time due to mistral winds, and in this eventuality the Tour has to be canceled with little notice for the guests.
- We will meet near the TIDE Bar located on the Caboto seafront. The jetty where the boat is moored at “Nautica Salemme” is located exactly in front of the Bar. Our captain will welcome you with all the information relating to the reservation. The area is full of parking lots near the boat.
