This path DA connects two of the highest peaks on Madeira Island. It is a breathtaking route, featuring tunnels and some sections with steep ascents and descents, offering spectacular views over the island’s central massif.
Visitors can also observe various birds, some unique to Macaronesia, such as the canary (Serinus canaria), the Berthelot’s pipit (Anthus berthelottii madeirensis), and the plain swift (Apus unicolor).
Near the Pico Ruivo shelter is the track PR 1.2, which leads to Achada do Teixeira. At Achada do Teixeira, you can see the basaltic rock formation known as “Man in Foot,” located on the descent after passing through the Achada do Teixeira shelter.
