Gorgeous - Magnificent Japanese garden. To do. Very well designed. Pathways with landings because the entire Garden is sloping. Several places to rest. I highly recommend going there with the cable car which is impressive.

To do - Very pretty garden, we paid €15, entry per person, we took the cable car from the city center to go there €25 for two and we went down on a wicker sled for €35 for two.
The garden is really pretty, not to be confused with the botanical garden. These are two totally different gardens.

Great experience - The tour guide was brilliant. Great knowledge and explanation of different aspects of the gardens. The weather wasn't the best but you can't predict the weather. It was well worth the visit and would definitely do it again

Loved it much to my surprise - We weren’t planning on visiting the gardens but had to wait for the Carreiros as the started later that day and we’d only purchased a single cable car ticket. We were very pleasantly surprised. Some incredible specimens of pants including a 1000 year olive tree. Worth a visit !!

Tui did a good job. - We booked the trip via Viator but got transferred to Tui and we weren’t told as we couldn’t get any messages on our phones.

Beautiful and well-kept garden - The botanical garden is really beautiful, clean and well-kept. It is built very steeply, however, which means you are always going downhill and then have to go uphill again at the end. There is an electric car, however, which costs 5 euros per person and then you are driven back up to the entrance. In the garden you can buy a fresh alcoholic or non-alcoholic piña colada at a piña colada stand. NOTE: WITHOUT ALCOHOL IT COSTS 15 EUROS!!!! And there were 4 of us - that means 60 euros... absolute rip-off!!! What a shame!
We drove up by car, which worked out great. But you can also go up on the cable car, which stops right in front of the garden.

Not worth the money - Awful trip. Do not go if you have elderly in your party. It does not state unsuitable for elderly or that the whole garden is on a tiered system with many steps or slopes. If you go to the bottom there is a truck ride back to the top for€5 each person. This is not expensive but not indicated in the trip description ( cash only). The amount of time we had to explore was1 hour& 50 minutes which was not enough as there are also 3 museums plus a cafe. Although the gardens were beautiful, I do not feel it was worth the money as we had so little time there. It was also a 6 hour trip from pick up to drop off at hotel to include Toboggan ride & cable car back down to Funchal.
