Brilliant Hiking Experience - A fantastic trip. Well organised with really good communication in the run up. Our driver Nuno was punctual, friendly and professional and gave us good information about the hikes as well as general information about the island. This out and back PR9 hike was brilliant and the rain on the way out did not dampen our enjoyment. The flora and fauna was incredible and it felt like hiking through a jungle. The weather cleared in the way back revealing incredible views. The pathways are narrow in places with big drops to one side. Despite being one of the more popular levada walks we didn’t find it too crowded or difficult to pass people hiking in the other direction. This was one of our favourite hikes. We would highly recommend.

Thanks Diogo! Amazing waterfall views - Diogo was a fantastic driver and had an excellent playlist throughout the drive. The hike was quite easy and the views of the waterfall at the end were breathtaking. I feel the time allotted for the hike was at least an hour too long as all our group was at the meeting point at least 30-45 minutes early. Overall, the experience was great and we enjoyed the transfer to the hike.

Perfect service to and from a great walk - Great comms from the tour company with pick-up and itinerary details. Driver (Diogo) was also excellent. The walk itself is relatively easy (long but flat) and the views stunning. The narrow walkways and tunnels when meeting people coming the other way are actually lots of fun!

A great mix of everything - Excellent suggestion by other guide, this was a great way to see some of what Madeira has to offer. A mixture of lovely views, tunnels and waterfalls. Our driver Nuno was great, friendly and happy to answer our queries. He gave us all the info we needed and explained it clearly so we left feeling confident and excited! Plenty of time given to enjoy the walk without feeling rushed and without feeling like you wasted time waiting to be collected. You will have to navigate narrow paths with oncoming walkers but it’s manageable. You will get muddy and you’ll need charge on your phone/headtorch for a light through the tunnels. It’s a max elevation of 100m, the path is uneven and narrow in places with low ceilings in some of the tunnels too. The cafe is very reasonable with plenty of seating. You need cash for the cafe and toilets, €0.50 coins only. Payment for the hike (€3) is card or cash. I recommend the self guided hike as you can’t really get lost on this route and it had a bit of everything.

Great service and fantastic hike - Really good experience and great value for money! Driver Nuno was very friendly and punctual with lots of knowledge around the local area. Walk was lovely with lots of beautiful waterfalls and views. Trail was flat and really nice to walk along the Levada with some tunnels and viewpoints throughout. Some low headroom points and narrow paths if you’re scared of heights! Fantastic experience

Stunning walk, fantastic company. Highly recommend. - Fantastic experience with a great driver/ guide in a well maintained vehicle. The walk was explained to us at the start and we had a good amount of time to complete it allowing for plenty of stops. The walk itself was stunning and mostly completely flat, with some areas where it is quite narrow. There are also abfew low tunnels to walk through which added to the experience. The path has only recently reopened following landslides but was safe under foot having been repaired. We really enjoyed the walk, the scenery was stunning.

Recommended - Very nice path, the path is mostly flat, hardly stairs, but sometimes narrow. You shouldn't be afraid of heights.

Change of walk due to trail closure - we enjoyed the alternative offered to us (25 Fountains PR6) - The tour operator contacted us the day before our trip explaining the planned Levado route was closed and suggested 2 alternatives. We took the high mountain PR6 (25 Fountains) route and had a great day out. It's an undulating 7 mile walk around 3,800-4,400 feet high . Most of the walk is flat. Henrique was a friendly driver and chatted about Madeira to expand our knowledge as this was our first visit to the island. Reasonable walking shoes are needed - we had great weather so didn't need a jacket but obviously it can be changeable at that height. Small minibus for transport with efficient pick up and drop off points at hotels, you need 50cent coins for toilets at cafe near start of route, and a 3 euro visitor charge (payable online) helps maintain the paths etc. The path was quite busy at times and narrow in places but had no open steep drops alongside so comfortable walking with woodland and also mountain views. Waterfalls at end are a lovely spot for a picnic so its busy as everyone takes time to enjoy the setting.

Know before you go - Great hike but tour doesn’t tell you that the pick up spot was an extra mile hike. After we already hiked 10 mikes so it’s 11 miles total. Would have been good to know in advance. Nice hike to caldera though.
