Well-Organized, Safe & Stunning Views! - My partner and I booked this excursion during our holiday in Zanzibar, my partner is not a strong swimmer, however I love to snorkel. As this was also a private tour it made it more magical. We were collected by the taxi at 8am and driven to Fumba, once at Fumba we met another gentleman who took us down to the harbour and we were met with Abu. In the harbour there are a few people selling useful items such as swimming shoes and waterproof phone cases, they do not harass or bother you, they are just there to make a living. Once with Abu we walked out to a small speed boat with others and were driven to various local boats called Dow and each person/group got onto their boat. Our boat was clean and comfortable, once aboard Abu introduced us to the others aboard and explained what would happen, we were then taken on a boat ride out near to the sand bank about 30mins away. Crystal clear waters and the stunning views made for a lovely relaxing trip. When we arrived at the area we were offered snorkelling gear (Goggles, tube and flippers) and were told to go and enjoy, when we asked how long Abu told us ' Until you are happy', there were of course other boats in the area but they were all well spaced out, we snorkelled for around 40mins and saw many different fish, clams, eels and coral life, it was amazing. We eventually decided we should move on to the next bit, Abu placed a metal ladder in the water for us to get out, it was very thick on the sides with a big step between 2 & 3, I am a larger woman with very little upper body strength and I struggled to get into the boat, Abu very kindly offered to swim with me to shore so I could get in the boat in shallower waters, we then decided to try 1 more time, so with Abu and 'Captain Jack' pulling my arms and my partner pushing my leg I was able to roll onto the boat like a salmon, not the most graceful moment of my life, but despite that Abu never made me feel embarrassed of what happened. I did see other boats with different ladders so my only suggestion would be to invest in a more modern ladder with handrails, however please note this was only my issue as my partner could get in without any problems. After this we moved over to the Sandbank, this is an area that is only visible during low tides, due to the amount of effort it would take me to get back into the boat I decided to skip this and my partner and Abu went for a walk, me and the Captain drove around the island, during this time Abu and Captain offered us fresh fruits such as Watermelon, Coconut, Pineapple, Orange, passion fruit and this local snack which was really really good!, unfortunately I can not remember its name. Next we moved onto the Starfish fields, this was an area where there are lots of starfish, all different shapes, sizes and different numbers or arms, Abu joined us here and pointed out some really interesting looking Starfish, Just as we were about to get out my partner spotted Lionfish which was very cool to see! we got back in the boat, My partner, like a normal person, me flopping about like a freshly caught fish and we moved on to the Lagoon. This was a cove area with shallow warm water and lots of Mangrove trees, it was very peaceful & beautiful, Unfortunately there was a 'party boat' (boat with a loud sound system and a microphone) so the peacefulness was ruined by someone just making noises into the mic. After this we moved on to the Island for lunch, during all of this Abu had been giving us information of the island, Zanzibar, the people and he showed how knowledgeable he is. Lunch was in a sheltered area and consisted of Lobster tail, Prawns, Octopus, Chicken, chips, Rice and a sauce that tasted like sweet and sour, It was also accompanied with a soft drink. the food was plentiful and tasty, we asked Abu to join us, Zanzibar is all about family, while on tour we are all a family and families eat together. After lunch Abu took us to a fallen Boabab tree, we did have to walk through some Market stalls, each selling different crafted items, but again there was no harassment, you could look in peace and buy something if you wanted to. Abu explain about the fruits on the Boabab and we were lucky to try some Boabab candy (very nice!) after this we could wonder around or have a swim if we wished (we did as it was very hot) then it was time to head back, during the return they use the sails and wind rather than the engine, we decided to race the boat next to us (we won of course!) but it was so nice to just hear the sound of the waves! when we got back we hopped of and Abu took us back to the collection point where the same taxi was waiting for us. it was a packed but relaxing day from 8am -6pmish. beautiful views, clear waters and a guide who makes you feel at home. Thank you Abu!

Awesome - Dude, the most awesome trip ever! The snorkeling was incredible, so many crazy colorful fish! The boat ride was so chill, great tunes and good vibes all around. Lunch on that sandbar was amazing, especially the grilled seafood. The crew was super cool and helpful, making the whole thing even better. Seriously the best part of my vacation, you HAVE to do it. I'm already thinking about going back next year. Best. Day. Ever!

Fabulous - This was such a fantastic day out, and exceeded my expectations. I've not snorkelled before and the guides were fantastic with us newbies. The food was really good, even for vegetarians (the dahl was excellent!). My husband and I really loved this trip and thought it was really worth every cent! Getting to sail on a dhow was also really special and gives you a wonderful insight into Zanzibari culture.
