Additional Information
Glacier Country Helicopters is a local, family owned and operated company based in Franz Josef, on the West Coast of New Zealand. Husband and wife team Gus and Poppy started the company in January 2014 and you’ll generally find one of them out flying most days.
On our Glacier Explorer flight you’ll fly over the Franz Josef Glacier and then into the Southern Alps to enjoy the included 10 minute snow landing for photos. Total experience time approx. 25 minutes.
Please allow an extra 45minutes on top of your flight time to allow for checking in, transport to helicopter, loading, unloading and to return to our office.
- Please let us know if you have limited mobility e.g. injury, arthritis or recent surgery? There are two high ladder style steps into the helicopter. This information could effect what helicopter we fly you in.
- Our helicopter seats are 40cm wide. If you would like extra space or are wider than this we highly recommend booking a comfort seat which guarantees an empty seat next to you.

Please check in at our office 30 minutes prior to your flight time. We recommend bringing sunglasses, a jacket, camera, and shoes you don’t mind getting wet.
Our only base operates from Franz Josef. Cancellations within 24hours due to customer booking the wrong location will not be refunded.

Amazing helicopter flight - Fabulous experience! I was very nervous about going in an helicopter but our pilot Dion was brilliant - such a smooth flight to the glacier. Beautiful sunny day made for stunning views.
The flight was the highlight of our trip to NZ!!
Highly recommend this small family owned business.

Spectacular - Sitting in the front seat was amazing and spectacular. Best $325 I have spent in a long time. Staff were friendly and the weather was perfect. Highly recommend to anyone

Amazing!! - What an amazing adventure. Beautiful views from the helicopter but probably more memorable was the glacier after we landed. The ice was like a sparkling wonderland as it glistened in the sun!! Thanks for an awesome experience that we’ll never forget.

Great experience - We really enjoyed seeing the glacier via helicopter. We were lucky that the weather cleared enough to go up, however, the weather also made it unsafe to do a snow landing, so that was a little upsetting. The company tried to take us to a different glacier for a landing, but the weather was uncooperative and they put safety first, which of course, they should. It was a really beautiful experience, and I am really glad that we did it. The staff was friendly and informative, and we felt confident in their skills.

Out of this world experience - We can’t recommend this highly enough! It blew both our minds and exceeded our very high expectations. Glacier Country Helicopters is a very professional outfit with great staff. If this is something you want to do (and I highly recommend you do!) you should prepare to be flexible. The weather is unpredictable and you want to be in a position where you can rebook, if you need to.

I’d do that again!! - First time in a helicopter. Wow! I’d do that again! The team was great, weather was fine, sunny and clear as far as the eye could see. On the way up, a big hunk of the glacier came away…was glad I saw that!. Snow landing was awesome. Loved it! If you guys do night flights, I’m in!!”

Amazing! A must do in Franz Josef and a big thank you to Nicole! - Highly recommend this flight with snow landing, we absolutely loved it. We felt safe and Gus and his team are so professional and helpful. The whole experience was amazing, it really is a must do while in Franz Josef. A big thank you to Nicole who picked up on a booking error I made (wrong date!). Nicole got in touch and sorted it all out so that we were able to fly in the same helicopter on the same date as our friends we were travelling with. So very grateful, thanks Nicole!

Beautiful views - Our snow landing was cancelled due to low cloud cover and incoming rain, but we were offered the helicopter flights over the two mountains instead (or a reschedule, but we were only there for the one night).
The staff were really friendly and the flight and views were amazing.
