Initially it was intended to protect the Este family from the town’s irate citizenry, who were up in arms over tax increases, but in the late 15th century it became the family’s permanent residence. Ferrara, a city on a human scale..! Lots of greenery, lots of history..! - The Renaissance really has its reason in the city of Ferrara, beautiful buildings, lots of history, large and well-used pedestrian areas, a truly enjoyable city, full of clubs, green areas, the walls then with its embankments and parks below... !!
