Setting Sail on a Caribbean Dream

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I made my way to the marina in Puerto del Rey, Fajardo. The anticipation of a day filled with sun, sea, and adventure had me buzzing with excitement. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the ocean, but there’s something uniquely thrilling about setting sail on a catamaran to a deserted island. The sleek vessel awaited, promising a day of exploration and relaxation.

Boarding the catamaran, I was greeted by a friendly crew who immediately set the tone for the day. Their enthusiasm was infectious, and I could tell they genuinely loved what they did. With a refreshing piña colada in hand, I settled into a cozy spot by the bar, ready to soak in the stunning views of El Yunque mountains and Fajardo’s coastline. The boat was spacious, accommodating everyone comfortably, and the music—a lively mix of English and Spanish hits—added to the vibrant atmosphere.

Although there were other boats anchored nearby, the island didn’t feel overcrowded. The crew quickly set up shade awnings on the boat, providing a perfect spot to relax and take in the breathtaking scenery.

Eager to explore, I slipped on my snorkel gear and dove into the inviting waters. The shallow depths made it easy to navigate, and I was soon surrounded by a vibrant underwater world. Schools of colorful fish darted around me, and the coral reef was teeming with life. It was a mesmerizing experience, one that reminded me of the beauty and diversity of the ocean.

Back on the boat, a delicious lunch buffet awaited. The fresh sandwiches, salads, and fruit platters were a delightful treat, and I couldn’t resist going back for seconds. Snorkeling and Sailing Back

After lunch, we headed to a nearby reef for more snorkeling. This time, the water was slightly deeper, offering a different perspective of the marine life below. Rays glided gracefully through the water, and I even spotted an octopus hiding among the rocks. The crew had set out an enormous float, and I took a moment to relax on it, basking in the sun and the serenity of the sea.

As the afternoon sun began to dip, we set sail back to the marina. The journey back was a time to reflect on the day’s adventures and the incredible crew who made it all possible.
