One Amazing Experience / Bioluminescent Bay Fajardo - This is a must do if you are in the area. We have done the Parquera as well, but this one with kayaking thru the mangroves, and spending time on the bay is transcendent. My wife and I (fifties) and our teenage son (16) found it doable and each of us was overwhelmed by the experience. The staff; especially Michie and Joe made sure to enhance the experience with their passion, experience and professionalism. Yes, they do the tour in English, but also in Spanish so nothing is lost. They do 2 tours, we did the 6pm tour and got to see the sunset on the lake and the mangroves prior to darkness. And they make sure you see the bio luminescent organisms!!! a guarantee not avail in La Parquera

Awesome spot - Great tour guides and the bio bay was awesome. Try to schedule around a new moon so it’s darkest in the sky.

BEST company to go on this adventure! - BEST group for this adventure. It was an especially dark night because of the cloud coverage and waxing crescent moon and our guides were absolutely terrific - well organized, experienced and knowledgeable (unlike the other disorganized, unsafe, dangerous and chaotic groups). Kayaking through the mangroves in the pitch black and arriving at the bay felt like we were in Pirates of the Caribbean. The bioluminescence was beautiful and the kayak adventure was really fun and unique. The guides went above and beyond for my aging parents - Joe towed my parents the entire time! He was so kind, energetic and lovely about it all. Also, my husband has difficulties with his legs and they were fantastic and helped him get in and out of the kayak with no problems. My teenage daughters had a blast with Emily and the other male guide (so sorry I forgot his name) who was funny and fun and showed us a jelly fish from the bay. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this adventure with THIS group!

Fantastic - Kayaking in the mangroves in the dark and to see the bioluminescence was amazing. The tour guides were great keeping track of all the kayaker’s.

Herding cats - I disliked kayaking in a straight line, nose to tail through the river. When in the bay we were strongly discouraged to explore(bright lights shone in our face telling us to rejoin the group). The group was too large to hear any explanation of the bioluminescence, and minimal information was offered unless you asked a question. Sitting in the water in a bubble of 20 kayaks for an extended time before heading back limited the experience as well. Guides were OK but more involved with managing the group than making our experience “unforgettable”. Ropes attached to paddles( because we could not be trusted to hold onto them??) were annoying. Website also boasted that a marine biologist would be presenting, which was far from the truth. “Eco”tour also provided plastic bottles of water after the tour, not a very eco choice. I would not recommend this tour.

Use another company for this type of tour - We recently completed a night-time kayak trip w/Peniel and it was a mess. With this company, you go into a kayak and pretty much paddle completely in the dark in a single-file line through a narrow mangrove lane. B/C there are no lights on the kayaks, you have to follow the kayak in front of you which has a small, barely visible glow ring on it (some of the kayaks were missing them as well!) and the teenager tour guides have nothing organized and just yell at the participants to "stay to the right" where there is a traffic jam of companies taking people out to the bay and in at the same time. So, you can't see if you are going to literally run into another kayaker, or the mangrove trees. Once in the bay, a very UN-funny and awkward tour guide roped us all together, and then started harassing us because we didn't know her name (she had not even told us!) and then proceeded to provide UN-helpful information about the bay. It was super awkward. This person kept asking if there were questions but it was all silence as we weren't on the tour to ask questions... we were there to see the bio-organisms light up. While the trip itself was somewhat interesting (to see the bioluminescent organisms), Peniel was disorganized and on the way back into the dock area, there was ZERO communications between this company and the other 10 kayak companies in this compound and kayakers coming in/out were just running into each other in the corridor from the dock to the bay. It was very dangerous and disorganized, and my kids anxiety levels went through the roof as kayaking in the dark in a busy/small lane wasn't fun and people could have been easily hurt. I strongly recommend to anyone considering the Fajardo bioluminescent kayaking to avoid Peniel and make sure to pick a different company that distributes life jackets that have small orange lights on them as it will make a big difference in your experience

Kayak chaos! - The general bioluminescence was cool but not amazing enough for all the negative aspects of this. We had a group of 15 double kayaks. It was apparent that many did not have kayaking experience. We needed to paddle in the dark in a channel in a row, while others were passing on the other side. There were kayaks sideways, backwards. Paddles were hitting you. Kayaks were hitting you. The tour guides did not seem to be capable of handling any of this at all. If anything, the tour guides caused more chaos. When we got to the bay, we sat tied together, all 15 double kayaks, for a good 20 to 30 minutes while someone tried to explain the bio luminescence. The tour group was too large for me to hear anything. There were many other tour groups out there as well so lots of background noise. We had to stop a number of times on the way back because there were small boats and other kayaking groups that were passing. It was chaotic again- sideways kayaks, backwards kayaks, paddles and kayaks hitting. Kayak chaos. Save your money!
