Into the Heart of Ethiopia’s Extremes

As a wildlife photographer with a penchant for adventure, I was drawn to the allure of Ethiopia’s northern landscapes. The promise of the Danakil Depression and the Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela was irresistible. My journey began in the Danakil Depression, a place that felt otherworldly with its vibrant sulfur springs and expansive salt flats. The heat was intense, but the beauty of the landscape was worth every drop of sweat. Watching the sunset over the Salt Lake was a moment of pure magic, a reminder of nature’s raw power and beauty.

The journey to Erta Ale, a continuously active volcano, was a test of endurance. The night trek was challenging, but reaching the summit to witness the boiling lava was an experience that surpassed all expectations. It was a humbling reminder of the Earth’s fiery core, a sight that few are privileged to see. The Danakil Depression, with its extreme conditions, was a testament to the resilience of life and the beauty that can be found in the harshest of environments.

The Majesty of the Simien Mountains

Leaving the heat of the Danakil behind, I ventured into the Simien Mountains, a place that felt like the roof of Africa. The air was crisp, and the views were nothing short of spectacular.
