Highlights
  • Colchester - On this tour, we cover 2000 years of history from the native Iron Age Celts and the Roman occupation to modern-day Colchester.
Hear about the Saxon settlers of the dark ages, the Norman conquest, the building of their magnificent castle, the Flemish settlers of the Middle Ages, and the skills they brought to the area. See and hear about the beautiful Georgian architecture that is in abundance here in Colchester and how the various settlers through the ages recycled the Roman building materials of nearly 2000 years ago.
  • Lavenham - After the tour of Colchester, we travel by car to the beautiful Suffolk town of Lavenham, acknowledged to be one of the finest examples of a medieval wool town.
Most of the timbered houses were built between 1450 and 1500, whole streets of timbered houses, not just the odd one here and there. That is what makes Lavenham unique.
During this tour, we stop for lunch at the lovely Lavenham Blue Vintage Tea Room.

Travel back in time to medieval Colchester - Louise was a fabulous guide and gave a very informative tour. I especially loved all the little English sayings and their origins. There is so much more to Colchester than just the castle, thank you for helping me appreciate it more.

Great tour - I really enjoyed the Colchester Heritage Tour which took 1 and a half hours and cost £10. Our guide, Louise was really interesting and knowledgeable, and gave us some interesting and fun facts. I thought it was well worth the money. It was my first visit to Colchester town and I definately would go again and visit the castle and the quaint cafes there.
