Additional Information

Antigua Guatemala is located just 1:15 hours from Puerto Quetzal in Guatemala. Founded in 1543, Antigua remains very similar to its original layout. Once, the capital for the Spanish kingdom established in Central America now is considered a heritage´s world site according to Unesco since 1979 and also one of the most charming and safest cities in Central America.

During this quick visit, you will enjoy the interesting talk of our experienced guide about the city´s traditions and history. Our highlight, it´s the visit to Santo Domingo Monastery and Resort. This XVI century, “half-restored” property has opened to its visitors the old facilities. In this magnificent location, you will experience a high-end atmosphere at any moment but also you will be capable to witness history in every detail. The complex offers amongst its main attractions museums for glass, art and silver, crypts, murals, catacombs and more. This is definitely the kind of tour you can´t miss.

Once In a Lifetime Experience - When we booked a day in Puerto Quetzal, we had no idea what to expect. The internet didn't seem to have much information about this port or the area, and the information we did read was inaccurate. Our cruise ship offered an excursion to the ancient city of Antigua, but it was sold out. We booked this private tour instead, and it surpassed any expectation we could possibly imagine. (it also was more cost effective) When we got off the ship, Moses our guide was waiting with our name on a sign. He guided us to a waiting air-conditioned van where a private driver also was. Our guide Moses and the driver Tim were very friendly, spoke perfect Spanish and English, and made great highway time bringing us to Antigua ahead of the crowds and to a very special celebration on Palm Sunday. Having the driver stay with the van all day was key, since there are no cars allowed in the ancient city, and parking was impossible on this special day. Moses our guide shared so many interesting stories and history with us. He lived in the Antigua area, and introduced us to many local acquaintances, shop owners, restaurant owners and the like. We saw many beautiful buildings from before the earthquake, churches, the museum, historical hotels and had an amazing day. Palm Sunday is celebrated by the local church with floral street carpets, a procession that lasts from 10am to midnight, 1200 men carry on this procession in obedience, along with music and floats. We knew that we were very lucky to experience this with the local people. Many visitors are interested in Guatemalan jade, both purple, black and green. Moses took us to the famous jade factory, and then per our request, brought us to an indigenous shop where we purchased some beautiful pieces for much less. At the end of our day, we asked Moses to take us to lunch where he would normally eat. We were thrilled with the mom and pa restaurant we were guided to, and where many locals, not used to tourists at their neighborhood, were happy we shared an afternoon meal, and asked us after if we had enjoyed it, which of course we LOVED it. You can't plan or purchase an authentic adventure like we experienced. I recommend this company, tour guide, drivers 100% and thank them for making a special memory for us.

Best Way to See Antigua - This is the best way to see Antigua. It was just the four of us with a guide and a driver. We saw a lot more than had we been in a big bus and the cost was actually less. Moses was a fantastic guide and was there waiting for us as soon as we got off of the ship. He even took us places that were not a typical place for tours (like inside the mayor's office because it had a better view of the square).

Great personalized experience - This excursion was just what I hoped it would be. Our guide, Eduardo, was waiting for our group of four at the pier. He proceeded to lead us on a personalized tour of Antigua and the area that was pleasant and informative. He answered all our questions and even gave us an excellent suggestion for a place for lunch. Throughout, he was personable and informative and gave us a great introduction to the beautiful colonial city of Antigua.

Excellent insider view of beautiful Antigua - Our recent tour of Antigua was a highlight of our trip. Our guide Eduardo was knowledgeable and personable and our group of four especially enjoyed the personalized attention. Eduardo answered all our questions and pointed out many things we would have missed without his insights. Even his recommendation of a place for lunch was excellent.

A first class experience! - This tour day was enjoyable from start to finish! Our guide, Eduardo, was waiting at the port with our name on a sign, so he was easy to find. Second, the vehicle was clean and comfortable with blasting AC. Third, our driver, Marlon, always made us feel safe and secure, despite difficult roads and a motorcyclist with a death wish. Lastly, Eduardo was a really good guide. He took us to all the top sites and helped us see the details that explain so much about the Mayan culture and local history. He also introduced us to an excellent local restaurant and recommended a delicious local dish (pepian). For less than the price of a ship’s tour, we had an in depth tour tailored to our interests. We were well cared for throughout the tour. I highly recommend GT business & travel, and Eduardo (guide) and Marlon (driver). A first class team.

Antigua History Private Tour with Amazing Lunch Stop - Picked up on time by our driver Nixon and tour guide Armando. Armando had a lot of knowledge to share with us and was very flexible to accommodate our group. Good natured and good humored, we enjoyed our time and experience with Armando and Nixon and would recommend this tour highly and found the cost reasonable and the van comfy and nicely air conditioned.

Excellent adventure - the guide was well educated and polite. The pick up was punctual, the transport vehicle was good. We saw everything we wanted to see and more. there were a guide and a driver,so the guide could concentrate on us( we were a group of six)Antigua ,being an UNESCO heritage site still retained its colonial characteristics. One of them was the road paved with cobbled stones, which made the ride very uncomfortable. We had lunch in a local cafe. Food was good but no WIFI.WE enjoyed the trip. Even the front desk staff was nice, Bryon helped us a lot when NCL unexpected changed the date for the Antigua visit. Thanks everyone.
