Bwindi provides a distinctive and remarkable adventure for visitors interested in mountain gorillas, with 35 known Gorilla groups in the park and 17 that have become accustomed to human interactions for the purposes of research and tourism.

The ancient forest, which has stood for over 25,000 years, is renowned for its biological diversity. It is home to more than 120 mammal species including the chimpanzee, blue monkey, L’Hoest’s monkey, and the mountain gorilla. Birdwatchers can revel in observing 357 avian species, among which 23 are unique to the Albertine Rift Valley, examples are the short-tailed warbler and the African green broadbill. Herpetologists will find interest in the 220 species of amphibians such as frogs, as well as reptiles like chameleons and geckos, many of which are at risk of extinction.
