Incredible tea factory tour one of the best guides we have had - We did both the tea factory and plantation tour and would HIGHLY recommend the factory tour. Our guide, Lahiru was one of the best I’ve ever had and took us through the 6 stage process and showed us everything whilst explaining the journey, history and process in beautiful detail and kept it so entertaining! He has also studied tea at university for 4 years so knew the answer to every question as well as explaining the science. Honestly was well worth doing. The plantation tour was a lot more brief (still enjoyable) but the factory tour we came away beaming and is a must do to find out more!!

Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory Tour - A Taste of Tradition - Our visit to the Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory in Sri Lanka was an experience I won't soon forget. Opting for the tour that included tea leaf plucking, I was treated to an insightful journey into the world of tea cultivation and processing. Upon arrival, Mr. Sallay warmly welcomed us and commenced an engaging explanation of the intricate tea-making process. His wealth of knowledge and clear articulation made the complexities of tea production accessible and fascinating. Accompanying Mr. Sallay was his partner, a master of tea leaf plucking whose name escapes me but whose expertise was unmistakable. With astonishing speed and precision, she deftly plucked tea leaves, showcasing a skill honed by years of experience. Her generosity in sharing freshly plucked leaves with us exemplified the genuine hospitality of the Sri Lankan people. Following the enlightening plucking demonstration, we ascended upstairs for a tea-tasting session overseen by Mr. Lahru. Here, amidst the fragrant aroma of freshly brewed teas, we were treated to a sensory journey through the diverse flavors and varieties of Sri Lankan tea. Mr. Lahru's expertise shone as he guided us through the nuances of each blend, enriching our understanding and appreciation of this beloved beverage. All this was offered at a remarkably affordable price of $10, making it an accessible and enriching experience for visitors of all budgets. The Uva Halpewatte Tea Factory tour truly encapsulates the essence of Sri Lanka's rich tea heritage, offering a blend of education, hospitality, and sensory delight. It's an experience I wholeheartedly recommend to anyone seeking an authentic taste of Sri Lankan culture.

An excellent surprise - Arriving at 2:30 p.m. on site, the lack of activity and tourists made us fear the missed visit. It was without counting on Siva who gave us a tour of the factory and then the tea tasting. Inexhaustible with knowledge about tea and the functioning of the factory, the machines and the sale of tea, this tour proved fascinating! We respond strongly and if possible, with Siva :)

Tea for two - Excellent and informative tour with qualified guides. Ours (Rajha) was very knowledgable as he worked all his life at all stages in the manufacturing process. Even though the factory was not working when we visited it was worth it. Only comment maybe that $20 per couple for a 45min experience is on the higher end.

Factory Tour - We did the factory tour and experienced a lot of new things. At first we were a bit shocked at the price. A whole $10 per person for the tour. The tour seemed a bit rushed but was still very informative. You should also have a good command of English because the guide's accent meant that not everything was always understandable. You can always ask questions and they will gladly explain again what you didn't understand.

Unfair exchange rate - They charge 10$ per person to tourists. All prices in the shop are also in $. They use a higher exchange rate, which means they make an additional profit of 200 LKR per dollar. This is not correct. Prices are already high. Complaints fall on deaf ears among those responsible. Of course the staff cannot do anything about this. Fortunately, our guide more than made up for our unpleasant start with his friendliness and knowledge. He spoke good English. The visit to the factory was worth it despite the money grab.
