As we commence our excursion, we will set out towards the East of Antioquia on a journey of approximately two hours, transitioning from cityscapes to the vibrant Colombian countryside. Our venture will take us to El Viejo Peñol, a re-creation of a historical town that was submerged to pave the way for a sizeable hydroelectric power plant that now provides electricity to a significant proportion of the nation’s populace.
Our journey will then lead us to La Piedra de Guatapé, or the Rock of Guatapé, an immense monolith standing around 220 meters tall. Its interior is a spiraled staircase of over 750 steps, leading to an astonishing altitude of about 2137 meters above the sea level. By climbing this rock, we will be rewarded with one of Colombia’s most awe-inspiring vistas.
Finally, we will stroll around Guatapé, one of Colombia’s most vibrant and colorful towns, steeped in distinctive architecture and historical charm. Its well-preserved houses and ample handicrafts will draw you into a nostalgic journey, allowing you to experience the undeniable magic and rich culture this place possesses.
