San Martín 872 - This is an adventurous rafting journey on the Río de las Vueltas, a river with glacial roots starting from Lago del Desierto and culminating in Lake Viedma.
The adventure begins at the Comarka Rafting dome, where participants are greeted by guides and equipped with necessary gear.
After suiting up, adventurers are shuttled by van to the river’s entry point, a mere 5 minutes from the base, for a briefing on technical aspects and safety. The initial 6 km stretch of the river offers serene, winding waters perfect for admiring the majestic Cerro Fitz Roy, its surrounding spires, the Andean woodlands, the steppe, and possibly some local wildlife and birds. This tranquil segment allows rafters to familiarize themselves with the raft and practice paddling and safety maneuvers previously explained.
The journey intensifies as it enters the canyon stretch. Following the first rapid known as “Portage,” a series of class III to III+ rapids span the next 10 km, providing a rush of excitement and adrenaline. Upon completing the descent, a van will be ready to transport participants back to the base where they can change, relax, and refuel with snacks and beverages.

Rafting combines thrill, excitement, and a rush of adrenaline, and the Rio de las Vueltas provides a perfect environment for it. Initially, the serene river water lets us bond with the natural surroundings and marvel at the stunning view framed by the striking Cerro Fitz Roy and its accompanying pinnacles, along with potential sightings of local wildlife and birds. After traversing about 5 kms, we encounter the first rapid, termed ‘Portage’ by the guides. This event initiates a series of rapids stretching for approximately 10 kms, resulting in a surge of adrenaline and enjoyment, and injecting the right amount of adventure into an experience that will engage all your senses and afford a completely novel view of Patagonia.

Phenomenal experience - Lolito and his sons Tommy and Matteo are stupendous rafting guides! They truly are professionals with regard to safety and paddling technique and they really go out of their way to make it fun! Thanks for a wonderful day!

Safety pin - Excellent experience. The landscape is incredible. A canyon with a view of Fitz Roy. The river of turns becomes mighty with difficult rapids. The guides make you feel super safe and that you can do it. You get soaked. Adrenaline rises. Safety pin. From Yapa we saw a condor and choiques very close.

Perfect 3 hours of fun and adventure! - First rafting experience for myself and my wife. The guides were very safety minded, comforting, and attentive to everyone’s specific needs. We went through 15 rapids and two people from the other raft fell into the water, but hey, rafting has its risks and they were quickly retrieved from the river. Was a total blast, highly recommend, especially as a break from hiking! The guides take photos so you don’t need to and can focus on the moment. Suits provided and we were plenty warm, but you will get wet! Bring extra underwear for afterward or a bathing suit for during the adventure.

Excellent experience in the southernmost rafting - It is a unique experience, which takes you through the Rio de las Vueltas canyon that would not be possible to know any other way. We saw condors flying 30 meters away. The river is challenging; but the staff brings professionalism and dedication to make the experience excellent. The equipment provided helps a lot to compensate for the cold and is of very good quality. I totally recommend it.

Fantastic! - Very nice experience, our loli guide was very good, professional and very nice. We saw lots of animals along the river and the adventurous parts were very adrenaline-filled! Really highly recommended.

Perfect alternative to trekking to enjoy the vistas of El Chalten - Unbelievable value for money. The guide Lolito was excellent and could double as a stand up comedian. The journey goes down a long stretch of a beautiful glacial river with condors along the way and the view back to El Chalten is incredibke. While the rapids weren't as challenging as some other experiences I have had (although we still
lost two people and an oar overboard along the way) the experience makes up for it in scenery and distance, Great way to break up days of long trekking.
