We embark on our journey from Calafate early in the morning. Next, we travel approximately 30 km eastwards and follow the Legendary Route 40. Much of our journey will run alongside Lake Argentino’s eastern edge and the banks of the Santa Cruz River. Later, we will encounter La Leona River, which lends its name to the inn and hotel at the La Estela ranch. Here we’ll pause to delve deeper into the history of La Leona parador and hotel. Visitors are welcome to indulge in a warm beverage accompanied by homemade pastries.

We then set out for El Chaltén, after a tour of the Chorrillo del Salto located 4 km from the town and a meal at La Tapera. A 45-minute moderate hike brings us to the Mirador de los Cóndores, a vantage point that offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain ranges, the Las Vueltas river valley, and the town of El Chaltén.
