This tour begins at the famous Royal Mile, followed by a brief stroll to the Waverley Pub. This establishment has been owned by the same family for over 80 years, and as the owners admit, it has a rich, albeit dusty, history of people, music, and storytelling. Few places could be more fitting and atmospheric for our tour. After all, this is the bar that helped launch Billy Connolly’s career!
Over the next two hours, participants will enjoy four exceptional Single Malt Scotch Whiskys from the four main whisky-producing regions of Scotland. These whiskys will range from the delicate and subtle flavors of the Lowlands to the bold and robust tastes of Islay. Tasting cards with notes on each whisky sampled will also be provided.
Scotland boasts a deeply rooted storytelling tradition centered around the idea of people gathering to share good times, stories, and whisky. In ancient Scotland, storytellers held a highly respected position.
During this tour, we aim to revive some of that storytelling tradition and explore the significance of whisky to Scottish identity, while sharing captivating tales from across Scotland.
By the end of the tour, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of Scottish culture and the vital role whisky plays in it. The bar often features live music, and for those eager to sample more whisky, the Waverley Pub is well-stocked with whiskys from around the world, though we believe there’s little reason to drink whisky from anywhere other than Scotland.
