Hailing from Edinburgh, I have a deep passion for food produced locally - a passion so deep it led to the creation of a 16-episode TV show about culinary adventures and cycling in Scotland, aptly titled ‘The Woman Who Ate Scotland’. I envision this tour as a culinary aficionado taking you on a gastronomic journey to their most cherished spots. This is a fresh global food expedition.

A delightful peek into Scottish cooking - This was one of our favorite activities on our trip to Scotland! Nell was the most lovely hostess and it was so fun to be in her Georgian historic home. We adored everything we made with her, and went on to hunt out Cullen Skink our whole trip as she introduced us to this yummy Scottish treat. Highly recommend this

Lovely afternoon cooking and eating with Nell. - I took Nell's cooking class, held in her beautiful home. Nell is an energetic, talented, creative, charismatic individual and the four of us who were cooking with her had a blast. She welcomed us with a gin and tonic. We "made" - with Nell's help - Shortbread cookies and Cullen Skink (a smoked haddock soup). Then we had a delicious lunch that included what we made, plus some cheese/oatmeal snacks and the traditional haggis/potato and squash. It was a relaxed, interactive afternoon and I feel confident I can produce the soup and shortbread quickly and easily at home.

Loved cooking with Nell! - Nell was a wonderful hostess and cooking instructor! We loved sitting in her home, chatting about Scottish cuisine, and then making it ourselves. We'd highly recommend the cooking class!

Cooking in Nell's kitchen - Our cooking class with Nell was AMAZING! She has so much information to share about the history of the food we prepared and ate. The class was informative and delicious. We loved cooking like a local and learning about the neighborhood. Nell was very helpful with the directions to her home. The menu was just as she described and I can't wait to prepare it again at home.

Add on the Sausage Roll - Loved the New Town market and food tour. Had some really excellent bites and guide was very engaging. Loved the haggis, scones, smoked fish, smoked butter, ice cream, cheese & whiskey and we even had a bonus sausage roll from an amazing artisanal shop just by asking our guide. Saw some homes, learned some history of the area and generally had a lovely few hours.

Go on a safari in Edinburgh! - Without this suggestion from Across the Pond Vacations, we would have missed the unique pleasure of spending an evening of cooking and dining with the extraordinary Nell Nelson. Nell graciously welcomed us into her flat in Edinburgh which flowed into an evening of lively conversation, a splash of Lind & Lime gin on the rocks (my wife and I dislike gin normally but this local gin changed our minds!), lessons on how to make Cullen Skink (smoked haddock) that tasted astronomically better than the name sounds to American ears) and yummy Scottish shortbread cookies. A pure fun and educational evening all in one "sitting"! (And, by request, no haggis was served!)

Awesome Afternoon! - We had a delightful afternoon, with Nell, our guide! Nell was amazing! Seeing Edinburg through the eyes of a local, being introduced to wonderful establishments, eating and drinking amazing concoctions and learning a bit of history along the way was a fabulous way to spend our afternoon. We highly recommend this tour. After the tour, we feel like we really know Edinburg and the wonderful history, culture, foods and people it has to offer. We have been on many foodie tours throughout Europe and this one is definitely a 10 out of 10!

Fantastic food, locations and host - A wonderful way to spend an afternoon! Food was delicious, and Nell was the most friendly, positive and enthusiastic host you could possibly wish for, who loves her home city and has so much interesting knowledge to share about it.

Perfectly Unique and Special - Nell curated a special trip just for us as we could not go during her regular scheduled times. So accommodating!! It was just our small group. I also mentioned my LOVE for pastry and she managed to add in 2 spots that appealed to my own unique tastes!! First, can I say what an infectious zest for food and love of local curators and entrepreneurs Nell has! She is doing something special by drawing attention from big producers and highlighting local businesses that are doing unique and wonderful things in the local food scene in Edinburgh. We discovered a little part of Edinburgh we would have never found on our own. Along the way, we got little bits of history rolled into carefully menu selections at each of our stops. Nell clearly knew the owners and workers at each stop by name, making it clear these are places she not only brings her tours but also frequents herself. She wants to bring her favorites to you! Such attention to detail and a class act all the way. Spunky and lovely, we just enjoyed every minute we had in her company! I wish every tour guide had equal enthusiasm for their subject. We would have done another if we had more time. Fully recommend her tours over the larger tour companies that seem to lack the genuine and personalized attention we received.
