Great Hospitality - It was a great experience. The hospitality we received on the tour was truly touching. I would say that I wish that we received a little more instruction on horseback riding but we had guides the whole way and got the hang of it pretty quickly. The lunch was probably the best meal we ate while visiting Colombia. I would definitely recommend this tour.

Relaxing and Unique Journey - Ronald was a really kind and fun guide for our horseback riding experience. Fun fact: My wife and I had never been on a horse before! We saw how people lived in the community and grew food. There wasn’t much dialogue, just a small bit, on the history or educational part of Palenaque. The food at the end was AMAZING. Everyone was kind :)

Walking amongst the ancestors! - WOW, what an amazing venture, the provider was very informative, knowledgeable and kind. Palenque is an amazing town with a rich history, the people are incredibly proud of their heritage and it shows, the music, the food and the dancing is artful. We went to the replica of the old village on horses and it felt perfect, I felt like I was riding amongst the ancestor's of the village, it was a warm feeling of welcoming spirits. Overall, a must see!!

If you truly want to understand the history of Colombia, then you MUST take this tour! - This was such a wonderful addition to our trip to Cartagena. This is the first free African settlement in all of the Americas. Escaped slaves fought to form this community and maintain it throughout several hundred years. The tour is conducted by residents of the Palenque - an important connection when amongst those who actually live in the community. The guides treated us wonderfully and the horses were assigned by comfort level and riding experience. Lunch in the open air restaurant was phenomenal (we all got the fish). To truly appreciate the history of the Americas, you must connect ALL of the dots for a better understanding of where the world is today. Book this tour! Approach it with an open mind and be sure to tip everyone who cares for you on this amazing tour.

The best tour in Colombia! - WORTH IT! If you’re visiting Colombia this is a must! My partner and I rode horses throughout the whole region of Palenge, exploring acres of farm land and experiencing first hand how the Palenge people live. Our tour guide Eric also showed us around on foot while informing us on the history of their community. Such a memorable experience that no one should miss!

ChadM-Palenque-Aug-2021 - I just completed this tour. I had one of the best experiences on horse back. It was a solo tour, where my guide showed me all around Palenque. He was extremely nice. We even did a mini lesson translating between English, Palenque and Spanish. The lunch provided as part of the trip was very tasty. I was literally cooked in for us specially while we were touring. Everything was perfectly timed. The residents of Palenque were extremely nice and friendly and seemed genuinely happy that we visited. I felt at home. The cultural lessons were even more impressive, as I got a chance to learn how the people of Palenque lived their daily lives, saw a soccer game, and drank local beer. This is a definite must go for anyone who wants to see how local live, explore Colombian culture, and explore black history in Colombia and South America. My tour guide even brought us to his home, where I met his family, who were extremely nice. I love this trip so much that I have to return with my family. I cannot sing enough praises for my experience. I am so impressed about the fact that everything was catered for from the time of pickup at the hotel lobby to drop off at the lobby. I definitely recommend this tour and would give it 10 stars out of 5 if I could lol. If you have half as good of an experience as I did, I know you will be happy you participated in this tour.

Not the typical tour. Even better - What an amazing experience. If you want to immerse yourself into the Palenque culture this is the tour for you. Our tour guide Eric and Tyler took us through their village both walking and horseback, showing us their way of life. From the creeks they fish in, and lakes they bathe in, to the plantation where they get their source of food was truly an eye opener. Everyone we encountered was smiling, waving and even got to meet the medicine man. The excitement showed by the tour guide in explaining their culture and past demonstrated that they love what they do and comes from Within.

A great day of horseback riding. - We had a great time . The tour guide was a genuinely nice person but as mentioned before he is more reserved and not very talkative. I speak English and my wife speaks Spanish so she was able to communicate better even though he did speak some English. I am a very big guy and the horses they gave me were very well behaved and had no problems getting me where I needed to go. We went on about a two and a half hour ride and it was more than enough for me. I'm sure you could go farther if you were a bit more of an experienced rider and had the desire to go farther. We did see wild parrots and that was the first time for me. The guide did tell us there was the possibility of seeing a monkey but unfortunately I did not see one on my trip. The lunch was outstanding it was home-cooked over an open fire stove. The bathrooms were clean and all of the people seemed very happy that we were there. I have been on many horseback rides around the world and I really enjoyed this one. This course even though it was a little more difficult than where I have been in the past the guides were right there to help us every step of the way. They even offered to walk by our horse if we needed. With the guides right there with us I would have felt very comfortable with my 8-year-old son if he had been with us. I felt very safe throughout this trip. Tom Casey

History on Tour - My guide was knowledgeable about Palenque and its origins. Beautiful take and history. I rode a horse and was my first time. I caution you to be careful with the horses. I traveled throughout Palenque and learned new dances and enjoyed the food. The guide was personable and we hit along well, slight language miscommunications between English and Spanish. The tour also focused on the authentic town and its people.

Disappointing - We booked this tour in hopes of having an adventure and learning the history. Unfortunately, we experienced neither. The "guide" of bus was an hour late to pick us up. The one hour plus, trip to Palenque was uneventful with little discussion and no information from the guide. Once we arrived, we just wondered around for about fifteen minutes with no clue what we were doing. Finally the guide told us we were to tell the cook what we would like for lunch that was to come later. Then we began the "tour" on foot. We walked to random places with little information about why we were visiting each building. After more than two and a half hours, the others and us were ready to give up and just go back to our hotel based on the lack of guidance and timing. Finally, two horses arrived and the two of us took the "Eco-Tour on Horseback", consisting of a thirty minute ride down a street, down a short litter strewn trail, across a creek and then we returned to the group. The two non English speaking men with the horses, walked beside us for the thirty minute ride and seemed to be nice. We have taken many tours such as this and have never found one we would not recommend, but now we have. Finally we ate quickly and returned about three blocks from our hotel and told them we would walk the rest of the way back. We would never recommend this tour to anyone. The biggest waste of money and time in Colombia.
