Sunrise Serenity: Exploring My Son Sanctuary’s Ancient Wonders
Drawn by the promise of ancient temples and cultural immersion, I embarked on an early morning adventure to My Son Sanctuary. The experience was a perfect blend of history, tradition, and personal stories, leaving me with memories to cherish.
Sunrise Serenity at My Son Sanctuary
The allure of ancient temples and the promise of a cultural deep dive drew me to the My Son Sanctuary experience. As a digital nomad, I often find myself chasing unique experiences that blend history, culture, and a touch of adventure. The early morning tour option was a no-brainer for me, especially given the sweltering temperatures expected later in the day. Rising at 4:30 am might sound daunting, but the reward of witnessing the temples at sunrise, bathed in golden light and devoid of crowds, was worth every yawn.
Our guide, Van, was a gem. His passion for the history and culture of the My Son Sanctuary was infectious. As we wandered through the ancient temple-towers, dating back to the 4th century, Van’s stories brought the stones to life. The tranquility of the early morning, combined with Van’s storytelling, made for a truly immersive experience. By the time other tourists began to arrive, the temperature was climbing, and I was grateful for the head start.
A Taste of Tradition
After our temple exploration, hunger was setting in. The tour included breakfast, but it wasn’t served until after our visit to the temples. If you’re like me and need a little something to tide you over, I recommend packing a small snack. By 9:00 am, I was more than ready for the local noodle breakfast, which was a delightful introduction to the flavors of the region.
One of the highlights of the tour was a visit to a local village where we learned about the traditional methods of making rice noodles and rice paper. Watching the process was fascinating, and it was a reminder of the rich culinary traditions that are often taken for granted. I even got to try my hand at making rice paper, which was a fun and interactive way to connect with the local culture.
A Journey Down the Thu Bon River
The tour concluded with a scenic boat trip on the Thu Bon River, a perfect way to unwind after a morning of exploration. As we drifted along the river, Van shared stories from his life, weaving a narrative that was both touching and inspiring. His tales of resilience and joy added a personal touch to the journey, making it more than just a sightseeing tour.
Arriving in downtown Hoi An, we had the option to explore the charming streets or head back to our accommodations. I chose to linger a bit longer, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of Hoi An. The entire experience, from the serene temples to the bustling river, was a reminder of why I love traveling through Southeast Asia. It’s a region rich in history, culture, and warmth, and the My Son Sanctuary tour was a perfect encapsulation of that spirit.
