Additional Information

This excursion is as distinctive as the metropolis itself. The city stands out for its one-of-a-kind architecture, history, culture, customs, home-cooked meals, and above all, the unrivalled hospitality of its people, as affirmed by tourists. Berat Castle, not only a UNESCO site, being ancient has many fascinating aspects to explore.

  • Geographically, the town is nestled among the Tomor and Shpirag mountains, with the Osum river flowing through its heart. The typical Mediterranean climate, coupled with its geographic location, makes Berat a haven for fruits and vegetables. These, along with other fresh produce, can be savoured in the local eateries.
*Architecturally, the city sits on the incline of a verdant hill. The castle perched atop the hill and the white residences cascading down the slope, appearing to pile atop one another, contribute to a truly special vista.

Lovely, Historical, and Well Presented - This was the first tour on a long trip. Besnik offered a lot of insight about this part of Albania, and was more free to do so since we had a driver along with us. Durres was nice and we even took a look at some things that aren't being done so well there for the sake of tourism, Berat was beautiful, and Belsh was interesting and to me a sign of how a lot of smaller towns around the world might be able to transform themselves a little with some imagination. A great start to a long trip away from home.

A must do tour when visiting Albania - I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Albania. Adi gave us a Wonderful in-depth tour and explanation of all the attractions we saw from the Roman amphitheater in Durrës and the castle in Berat. This is a great tour to get a real sense of the history of Albaina. The food recommendations for lunch were delicious. We finished off the day in Belsh Lake with the glass of Raki. Adi answered every question we had and was very accommodating as he showed us extra mosques & historical sites along the way. The car was very comfortable with heat seats in the back and all electric car, so good for the environment and added bonus.

Wonderful places and culture - Our guide, Adi, was very kind, knowledgeable and accommodating. He helped us to better understand Albanese history and culture. Adi took us to some beautiful places, like Berat, and to have lunch in a wonderful place, surrounded by vineyards. The food was excellent and there was a party with Albanese music and dancing. We were very fortunate because they invited us to join the dancing. We had a lovely day! We highly recommend the tour.

Berat tour - I had Besnik as a guide for Berat and Durres. I was very pleased with the tour. Our driver was very calm and experienced, I felt safe with him. The highlight for me was the view of the valley from Berat Castle. I was also pleased that Besnik was able to arrange a look inside Helvetive Teqeja which was recommended to me. Thank you for a great day.

Interesting, informative and pleasant - Durrës may not be the most attractive site, but the sea and ruins add interest. Berat, on the other hand, is a very interesting site and Adi added a lot of information and stories that gave depth and color to the sightseeing.

Horrific - Horrific experience with Adi. The first part are general issues; the last part is subject to a refund request with Tripadvisor (thank you, Jinky, who handled this great) 1) He was due at 8:30. Texted last night to say it would be 9:00. Turned up 9:15. 2) The “air conditioned private vehicle” is a battered up old Kia. 1st stop was a petrol station; he hadn’t filled up. Next stop was a tyre place by a highway as he “hadn’t had time last night to change the wheel”. There was a further stop at a tyre place. All unprofessional and shouldn’t have eaten into the tour. 3) Adi seems kind and inoffensive. He gave some okay general information at the start, but then next to nothing the rest of the tour. This was not a professionally qualified guide. His English was also not great and hard to follow. 4) I know enough history to know a couple of pieces of information were grossly wrong: information on the Venetian Tower was out by 1000 years, as was Constantine the Great, who definitely did not build a church in 1400 (he died in 337). 5) The first proper stop was Durres. There is very little of interest there. The one thing - the amphitheatre - he said was not included in the £147 charge for the excursion. I’d have to pay £2.50 extra if I wanted to go in. It incidentally looks in extremely poor condition. 6) The tour includes hours of driving. After one long stretch he simply let me out at the side of the road in Berat, with virtually no information and gave no tour. He just said “take some photos”. I didn’t have a clue where I was or what I was looking at. 7) There were 3 specific “entry included” items on the itinerary. We did go to Berat castle, which was free anyway. He drove past the second (King’s mosque) without stopping; and I’ve no idea what the third was (Halveti Teqe) as we neither stopped there nor did he mention it. That’s ⅔ of the specific stops missed out. 8) Throughout the trip Adi was looking at his watch, presumably keen to get back having left so late and with the tyre stops. 9) He therefore started driving so fast, he was regularly on the wrong side of the road. I grabbed the dashboard on 3 occasions. He went into one 30 bend at 70. The next 30 bend he entered at 90. I felt he was losing control of the car and had to shout out for him to slow down. He apologised and said I was right, so was aware what he was doing. 10) At the last stop, a totally underwhelming little lake, I asked him just to get me back to Tirana I was so shaken up. He dropped me off not at my hotel, but in the middle of a busy road in traffic. A boring guide whose knowledge is shaky is bad. A guide who puts your physical safety at serious risk is utterly inexcusable. You should never, ever, have to shout at a driver to slow down. Absent that I would have given this tour 2/5: overpriced and neither particularly scenic (except Berat Castle), nor interesting. With his driving I would rate it zero. I would not recommend this tour or Adi to anyone based on my experience today. It has absolutely ruined by 3 day visit to Albania.
