Celebrate the spring equinox in Drumnadrochit with a blend of historical exploration and natural beauty. From cruising the mysterious Loch Ness to uncovering ancient ruins, this weekend promises a unique adventure amidst the stunning landscapes of the Scottish Highlands.
Embracing the Equinox: A Journey Through Time and Nature
As the spring equinox graces the Scottish Highlands, Drumnadrochit becomes a haven for those seeking to embrace the changing seasons with a blend of history, mystery, and natural beauty. The weather on March 22nd is mild and partly cloudy, perfect for a day of exploration. Begin your adventure with the Loch Ness Tour that departs at 08:45 AM. This full-day tour offers a chance to hunt for the legendary Nessie while cruising the enigmatic Loch Ness. The tour takes you through the scenic Caledonian Canal to the lakeside ruins of Urquhart Castle, where you can immerse yourself in the 13th-century history and enjoy the stunning views of Scotland’s most famous loch.
After exploring the castle, the tour continues to Fort Augustus, a quaint town where you can enjoy a relaxing boat cruise across Loch Ness. The afternoon brings a visit to the awe-inspiring Falls of Foyers, a favorite retreat of poet Rabbie Burns. The day concludes with a stroll along Dores Beach, offering a serene end to a day filled with historical and natural wonders. A recent review from March 5th, 2025, captures the essence of this tour:
The perfect way to see Loch Ness - We booked this trip last minute while in Inverness as we were dying to see Loch Ness. From the minute the bus pulled up, it was a great experience. Our tour guide for the day was Tonks and she made the trip - she was so knowledgeable, her love for Scotland was obvious and she made everyone feel comfortable and welcome. The trip itself was perfect (bear in mind the ‘extras’ such as entry into the castle and the boat tour you have to still pay for) but being bright around the entire circumference of Loch Ness all day made everything so easy. I would highly recommend Timberbush Tours and would definitely look to go on another adventure with them in the future.
A Day of Historical Discovery
On March 23rd, the weather turns overcast with a chance of light rain, making it an ideal day for indoor exploration. The Highlands Tour offers a perfect escape into the rich history of the region. Departing at 9:00 AM, this intimate group tour takes you to the ancient Clava Cairns, a well-preserved Bronze Age cemetery complex. These prehistoric burial cairns offer a glimpse into the distant past of Highland Scotland, dating back about 4,000 years.
The tour continues to the historic Culloden Battlefield, where you can walk the grounds of one of Scotland’s most significant battles. The experience is enriched by the insights of a knowledgeable local guide, who brings the history of the Highland Clan families to life. The day concludes with a visit to Urquhart Castle, where you can enjoy a complimentary whisky tasting while taking in the breathtaking views of Loch Ness. A review from February 26th, 2025, highlights the personalized experience of this tour:
Great experience and an amazing guide - Our guide George was delightful. Funny, very knowledgeable and easy going. He went out of his way to explain us everything at these important historic sights. Additionally, he created a tour that adapted to our family needs and took us to the Loch Ness Centre, where our toddler had a blast. I recommend him and Go Highlands tours and will surely keep him in mind for future visits.
