Highlights
  • Punta Tombo - Established in 1979, the Punta Tombo Protected Area spans 210 hectares and welcomes visitors from September to April. The shoreline is deemed a non-tangible zone, and in February, it’s common to see young penguins honing their swimming skills in the natural pools left by the receding tide. Departing from Puerto Madryn and heading south on National Route No. 3, a journey of approximately 190 km on both paved and unpaved roads leads to Punta Tombo, the most extensive continental sanctuary for Magellanic Penguins (Spheniscus magallanicus). This remarkable habitat hosts an immense population of these penguins, who arrive annually starting in September to breed and raise their offspring. Observing the wildlife requires adhering strictly to the designated paths.
  • Museo Paleontologico Egidio Feruglio - On the return trip, visitors have the opportunity to explore additional attractions, such as:

Optional (selection is not required at the time of booking and can be made up to 24 hours before the tour)

Option 1

  • A visit to Trelew and the Egidio Feruglio Paleontological Museum (admission fee not included)

Penguin! - Seeing the penguins was so great, but it was hard to walk to the end of the trail. More handrails and benches would help. Christian and Paulo were great- so informative and professional.

Penguins galore - If you love penguins, this is it! Tons of Magellan penguins in their habitat. We were lucky to see adults and juveniles. Experience of lifetime!

Excellent tour of penguins. - Our guide was wonderful and a wealth of information. She made the long drive go by quickly. We loved the penguin reserve and the tea house. This was one of our favorite tours on this trip to Argentina.

Thrill of a lifetime - soooo many penguins! - This was a great tour in general. There was some confusion in the organization somewhere as a guide/driver showed up at our place a day early! We scrambled and headed out. It was a bit tight in the car with five people but the tour itself was great. Our driver and guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of interesting information. There was plenty of time to explore, enjoy the environment and take photos. We then enjoyed a little tour and tea in Gaiman. There were lots of leftover goodies that they packaged up for us to take back. Definitely a worthwhile excursion.

Very interesting tour to see many penguins - We joined a small group tour with on time hotel pickup and drop off. It was a very interesting trip, in which we saw many penguins.

Book this instead of the ship's excursion! - Had a great trip to Punto Tombo to see thousands of Magellanic penguins. It was the guide, driver, one other couple and us. We got out of town way before the ship's busses and had plenty of time to enjoy the penguins before the crowds came. We had a generous boxed lunch on the way back. Excellent tour and value!!

Highly recommend - Davide is incredibly knowledgeable and kind and made sure we had a wonderful time on this trip. We visited the sea elephants and the penguins and each experience was at a good pace and I felt like I got the best of everything.

Good excursion but cramped van rude - The excursion was good, but it’s long van ride from the cruise port. The seats are small and not enough leg room so it is very uncomfortable.

Great experience with hundreds of penguins - Unfortunately, it is a very long journey there and back to the national park. About 400km there and back but the reward with the penguins is just great

VOZ DEL MAR AGENCY SCAM Pto Madryn - The VOZ DEL MAR agency in Pto Madryn charged in full in pesos for the excursion for two people to Pta Tombo and Hidden Island and CANCELED IT WITHOUT RETURNING THE MONEY. We had to pay another agency, and the excursion was wonderful.
