Highlights
  • Tiananmen Square (Tiananmen Guangchang) - In the morning, your professional guide will pick you up at your hotel lobby, and then a comfortable and capacious chauffeur-driven minivan will transfer you to Tiananmen Square. Follow your guide to take a morning walk around this city square, and you can shoot distant view photos of the brilliant landmark buildings such as the Monument to the People’s Heroes, the Great Hall of the People and the Memorial Hall of Chairman Mao.
  • Forbidden City-The Palace Museum - Walk through the Gate of Heavenly Peace with the great Chairman Mao’s portrait on it; you come to this morning’s highlight - the 600-year-old Forbidden City - the largest and the most intact imperial palace complex of the Ming and Qing Courts (1368 - 1911 AD).

The majestic Forbidden City has 9,999 rooms! Which are the most essential and interesting parts? The veteran itinerary designer carefully selects the top 10 palaces for you, including major ones on the traditional central axis, and some special chambers on the east and west wings.

Note: Since the Forbidden City is closed on Mondays, this tour designer carefully choose the Summer Palace instead of Tiananmen Square & the Forbidden City if your travel date happens to meet Monday. Summer Palace is the largest and best preserved royal garden in the world. It is a fantastic resort for travelers to admire the peaceful landscapes and magnificent architecture.

  • Mutianyu Great Wall - After 1.5 hours driving, you will arrive at the Mutianyu Great Wall, which is the best preserved and most popular section among all in Beijing. The itinerary designer smartly choose afternoon to visit the Wall to avoid the crowds, and you’ll have at least 2.5 hours to visit the wall and take some nice photos.
  • Niaochao National Stadium - On the way back to downtown, drive by the national stadium, also known as the bird’s nest, which is the main stadium of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. You’ll have a short stop here to appreciate its exterior appearance and take some photos.
  • Nanluoguxiang - Then drive by the bustling Nanluoguxiang Hutong, which is the typical representative of real life in Beijing with various local food stalls, souvenir shops, cafes and pubs. If you are interested, you can explore it at your own pace and return to the hotel by yourself. Your guide will be glad to offer you suggestions on how to get back to your hotel. If you prefer not to tour the Hutong area, your guide will escort you back to the hotel after dropping the others off there.

An enriching travelling experience - The tour started on 8 April 2024 and ended on 21 April. It took from Beijing to Xi'an, Guilin, Chongqing, Yichang and finally Shanghai. We saw pandas in the Beijing Zoo, walked on the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu, visited the Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, the Terracotta Warrior Museum, walked on the Xi'an City Wall, cruised on the scenic Li River in Guilin, on the Yangtze River from Chongqing to Yichang where we travelled on the high speed train to Shanghai. We watched a jaw-dropping Chinese acrobatic show at the Red Theatre in Beijing, a Tang Dynasty Music and Dance show in Xi'an, and ate Peking duck twice. We went up the highest building in China, the Shanghai Tower, where it took only 55 seconds to travel from the basement to the viewing deck. We also cruised on the Huangpu River in Shanghai to enjoy the spectacular views of the skyscrapers on both sides of the river. We walked on the historic Shanghai Bund that evening. All in all, it was a hectic tour, made pleasant by proficient and professional English-speaking guides who were very knowledgeable and accommodating. Well done by the team at Travel China Guide. Great job!

Short on time? Must see Beijing sites! - I was in Beijing for work with limited time to see the sites. Though a full day tour was daunting at first, I have no regrets! This was a fantastic way to see the top sites and Tom was an excellent guide.

Informative and fun! Early booking >8 days required for Forbidden City tickets - For our two day tour in Beijing we had comfortable vehicles and a pleasant guide with Tom. It was well paced and very informative. Do note April-May is pollen season in Beijing so don’t be shy about wearing those masks. We booked the no-shopping tour to take our mind off being strong armed into mandatory shopping stops and for fuss-free booking through all attractions, except for the cable car ride at Mutianyu Great Wall (round-trip) which is an extra 140 ¥ per person, but even that, Tom took care of the ticket booking. We will be back with Travel China Guide!

Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City and Great Wall of China full day tour - Our tour guide “ Tom” was superlative. He went above and beyond to make our full day tour of Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China, a treasured, memorable and fun experience. He was kind, considerate, knowledgeable and flexible - everything you want in a guide. He even helped arrange our ride the next day to Tianjin so we could catch our cruise ship to Japan. Tom was so knowledgeable and helpful, I can’t speak highly enough of him and our driver. I have an injured ankle so he walked slow and helped me navigate across uneven surfaces and up and down stairs. He was eager to share the culture, history and foods of China with us. Our van was extremely comfortable and he picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel which was a big plus. We asked to be driven by the Bird’s Nest Olympic stadium and the aquatic center and he did his best to indulge our every wish. What a gem he is. I highly recommend Tom and his tour!
