Setting Sail on the Mekong

The sight was nothing short of magical, with the golden hues reflecting off the water as we set off to explore the Cai Rang Floating Market. The market was a hive of activity, with vendors selling everything from exotic fruits to freshly brewed coffee. Breakfast was served on the boat, a delicious noodle soup and bahn mi, accompanied by the best iced coffee I’ve ever tasted.

The vibrant atmosphere and the opportunity to interact with the local vendors made for an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Clara, introduced us to a local family who welcomed us onto their boat, offering us a taste of their homemade fruit wine and fresh fruits. It was a privilege to witness their way of life and learn about their daily routines.

Our adventure continued with a visit to a rice noodle workshop, where we met Auntie & Uncle Nine. They graciously showed us the traditional methods of noodle-making, and we even got to try our hand at it. The experience was both educational and fun, providing a deeper understanding of the local culture and cuisine.

Before heading back to Ho Chi Minh City, we enjoyed a leisurely bike ride through the village, stopping at a local Buddhist monastery. The peaceful surroundings and Clara’s insightful commentary made for a memorable morning. Our final activity was a cooking class, where we learned to make spring rolls and rice noodles with veggies and herbs. The hands-on experience was a perfect way to end the tour, and the meal we prepared was both delicious and satisfying.
