Amazing experience! - The dolphin cruise was amazing!! The captain and crew were awesome! The captain did not go back to the dock until we saw plenty of dolphins. My family and I will definitely book with them again.

Fox was amazing. Would recommend 10 out of 10. - We had an absolutely unforgettable experience aboard the Southern Star Dolphin Cruise in Destin, Florida! From the moment we stepped on board, everything was smooth, welcoming, and well-organized—but what made it truly exceptional was our guide, Fox.
Fox was an absolute force of nature—adventurous, hilarious, and endlessly entertaining. His energy was magnetic, and he brought the entire cruise to life with his dynamic storytelling and deep knowledge of the area. Every moment was packed with personality, and his love for the ocean was clear in everything he said and did.
One of the most memorable parts? Fox’s impressions! From celebrities to classic movie characters and even over-the-top tourist stereotypes, his voices and comedic timing had the whole boat laughing out loud. It was like getting a dolphin cruise and a comedy show in one. He kept the crowd engaged and entertained from start to finish, without ever missing a beat.
Fox’s eye for spotting dolphins was spot-on, and he made each sighting feel like an exciting discovery. The glass-bottom boat offered beautiful views, and the entire experience was both relaxing and thrilling—thanks to his guidance.
If you’re looking for more than just a scenic ride—if you want adventure, laughter, and an unforgettable memory—book this cruise and hope you get Fox as your guide. He’s one of a kind!

Dolphin sighting - Saw at least nine dolphins and one stingray. Seemed like everyone enjoyed. Clean boat and friendly staff. Snacks and sodas reasonably priced.

A fun time was had by all - I took my 11 year old son on this cruise before leaving Destin. When I started to tell him about it, his first response was "this isn't one of those crappy touristy cruises, is it?" But he changed his tune pretty quickly after we pulled away from the dock. It was a beautiful day. The pilot was great - he really had an eye for spotting dolphins and sharks under the water's surface. A little pricey for 1 1/2 hours when you consider the parking rate also, but it's pretty much the same as all of the others in the area. I wouldn't necessarily do it again, but would strongly recommend Southern Star for anyone that has never been on a similar cruise before.

Dolphins in the wild is a sight to be seen and cherished forever. - On arriving at the ship we were greeted by a friendly and welcoming crew and informed we were free to roam the boat.
There was a top and bottom deck and room around the lower deck to walk, stand or sit to see the dolphins.
The captain was informative and funny and kept us entertained.
Although I do have to say the first half an hour of the trip is spent touring the harbour. The captain told us lots of interesting facts about the beautiful houses and boats and local area around us but I think initially we were all a little underwhelmed as we were just excited to start seeing dolphins.
We did start to wonder if we’d ever see any.
As we left the harbour and entered open waters we saw one dolphin. And spent some time following him around. The captain was good and slowed and turned so everyone got a chance to see it from whatever angle we were sat.
Then we moved on to look for sharks and thought maybe this would be all we saw but we were delighted and relieved to find a whole pod of 7 dolphins who swam around the boat for some time.
As we headed back to the harbour the captain played some music we danced to (rocking out the Macarena on a boat was fun).
All in all the trip turned out well. There’s was a bar where you could get refreshments, we did laugh as we got splashed by the water and took some pictures.
And the trip was only 90 minutes. It was enough but I think we’d have seen more and enjoyed it more without the harbour part of the trip.
That said, we had a nice time and are glad we went. It was worth the money in the end.

Wonderful staff but disappointing itinerary - I went on the dolphin cruise with Sothern Star on Monday, 28th April 2025. The staff were wonderful and very welcoming. I was though unfortunately disappointed by the itinerary of the cruise.
The cruise was 1.5 hours in total, but we spent the first 30 minutes travelling the wrong way down the dock!? We were given a 'tour' of the riverside real estate and told about how much the boats and houses cost there?
Unfortunately, nothing to do with dolphins at all, which was the reason that we were all there after all..... we then literally sailed past the exact spot that we had left 30 minutes before to go out to sea.
This left us with only 1 hour to go in search of dolphins.
We saw one dolphin early on, but I was dismayed that the captain then spent 20 minutes chasing this poor, lone dolphin.
I have been staying in Destin and seen the dolphins in pods myself, always five or more out in the bay. I did not understand why we were going after this poor lone dolphin and not leaving him alone. I found it quite uncomfortable to be honest. Bearing in mind that this is a large boat with a capacity of 150 people, it felt too much for this one little dolphin.
We did then move on and found a couple of pods with 5+ dolphins in it, which was really lovely to see.
In the end we saw what we went to see, but I don't think that I would do another dolphin cruise again on a large boat like that.
It was all a bit too much David vs Goliath, and we were definitely Goliath!
Maybe a small boat with a few people, so as not to disturb them quite so much.
