Delphi

Monastery of Hosios Loukas - The Hosios Loukas Monastery, meaning “Esteemed Saint Luke,” was not built in honor of Luke the Evangelist but was founded by the Greek monk Loukas, who was interred in the monastery’s crypt upon his death in AD 953. One of the most remarkable features of the monastery is the stunning gold mosaic of the saint visible at the entrance. The large church, Katholikon, is connected to the abbey and, in turn, is linked to a smaller temple called Theotokos, constructed between 997 and 1011 to honor the Virgin Mary.

The temples are adorned with numerous frescoes and mosaics, all impeccably preserved. Beneath the Katholikon lies the crypt containing the saint’s remains.

Although Hosios Loukas is smaller, the structure may remind you of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul or St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice.

Delphi - Our visit will include the Castalia spring, the ancient Sanctuary of Apollo, the Treasury of the Athenians, the ancient Stadium, the ancient Theatre, the unique bronze Charioteer, and the Museum. In Greek mythology, Delphi was considered the navel of the earth, home to the Delphic Oracle and a major site for the worship of Apollo after he defeated the Python, a dragon guarding the earth’s navel. Apollo communicated through his oracle.

The oracle’s priestess, known as the Pythia, was an older woman who sat on a tripod seat over an opening in the earth. Possessed by Apollo, Pythia would deliver prophecies. People sought the Delphic Oracle’s guidance on matters ranging from public policy to personal issues. The Oracle held significant influence across the Greek world and was consulted before major events.

We will conclude our tour of Delphi’s archaeological site by visiting the Temple of Athena Pronea and the Gymnasium.

Delphi Archaeological Museum - The Archaeological Museum of Delphi, one of Greece’s most important museums, showcases the history of the Delphic sanctuary, home to the most renowned ancient Greek oracle. Its extensive collections primarily include architectural sculptures, statues, and smaller objects donated to the sanctuary, reflecting its religious, political, and artistic activities from the eighth century BC to its decline in Late Antiquity.

The museum is housed in a two-story building with a total area of 2270 square meters, featuring fourteen exhibition rooms, 558 square meters of storage, and conservation laboratories for pottery, metal objects, and mosaics.

Arachova - The traditional town of Arachova is situated just 10km from Delphi. A visit to Arachova reveals a charming blend of old and new, set against the sacred grounds of Apollo’s mountain.

Arachova is undoubtedly the queen of Parnassos. Built in an amphitheatric style, it spreads magnificently across the southern slopes of Parnassus at an altitude of 960 meters, ending at a cliff where the Pleistos river flows.

Arachova is vibrant and full of life. Its wild beauty, combined with its preserved traditional character, cosmopolitan atmosphere, and the numerous activities offered by the majestic Mount Parnassos, make it a top destination for Greek winter tourism and a favored spot in other seasons as well.

Kalambaka - We will continue our journey through the mountains of central Greece, arriving at Kalambaka, a significant town known for the Meteora, the second-largest and most important complex of Eastern Orthodox Monasteries in Greece after Mount Athos. We will spend the night in a hotel in Kalambaka. If time permits, we will watch the breathtaking sunset from the rock of Meteora.

Meteora

Meteora - The following morning, we will visit three of the six monasteries suspended in the air, built on natural sandstone rock pillars. The Meteora Monasteries date back to the 11th century and are listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. The James Bond movie “For Your Eyes Only” was filmed at the Monastery of Holy Trinity.

Thermopylae Museum - Thermopylae, also known as the Hot Gates, is a significant town famous for the battle between the Greek forces, including the 300 Spartans led by King Leonidas, and the Persians in 480 BC. This battle is commemorated by Simonides in the famous epitaph, “Go tell the Spartans, stranger passing by, That here obedient to their laws we lie.”

The monument of King Leonidas stands by the battlefield, reminding us of the patriots’ sacrifice for a free country.

Wow! Mind blowing experience! - Thanks to Frank from Hellenic Private tour who recommended this tour to us. We went in a cruise from Athens and were panning on returning back on 13th Feb. we had finalized the day tour for Athens and one day in Argolis. Frank suggested to add two more days and take the trip to north of Athens, that was Delphi and Meteora and we did. Thanks to Frank and HP Tour and we did extend and did this two day trip. Frank’s had planned everything and also suggested to do the sunset in Meteora, just phenomenal. Words cannot justify about this tour at all, but as they say seeing is believing. We never even had a thought about any discomfort, bad experiences, uncomfortableness , trust with Hellenic Private tour and Frank. We anlready have recommended few friends and Family to contact Frank and H P Tours. Again thanks to Frank and his company. See you again for the planning of Santorini tours soon. Dharmen & Puja.

Great experience, tour and a fantastic tour guide - The tour was excellent. It covers so much of Greece’s history and natural beauty between Delphi and Meteora. The hotel accommodations and vehicle were very comfortable. The tour allowed for enough time and flexibility at each of the stops to enjoy whatever interests you. June is a great time for the tour - not crowded and pleasant weather. What made the tour even better was our tour guide / driver Jimmy. He was very knowledgeable of not just the tourist attractions but also of Greece in general. He speaks excellent English and very easy to talk to no matter the topic. He knew of the right places to stop at, be it for great food or places of historical importance or just great pictures. I highly recommend the tour and Jimmy if you are able to request him specifically.

Meteora and Delphi 2 day private tour from Athens- highly recommend! - We were so glad that we did this tour with Hellenic Private Tours- our driver Jimmy was fabulous and gave us tons of great information on Greek history. We drove to Meteora from Athens on day 1 and met a tour guide to give us history on 3 of the monasteries and then Jimmy took us to his favorite sunset spot which was amazing. He also took us to a great restaurant for dinner and our hotel in Meteora was outside of the main town (very quiet and spacious). Then we drove to Delphi on Day 2, had a fabulous private guide there (highly recommend!) and headed back to Athens, made it to our hotel around 7/8pm I think.

Perfect way to see Meteora - We had an outstanding experience. Prompt emails and responses, great communication, and a good itinerary. We did the 2 day tour to Delphi and Meteora and chose the private tour as we were travelling with our 2yo toddler. Mike was an amazing operater - he was relaxed, gave us good info on the sites and did lots of great recommendations about how to see the sites (i.e where to go first and later). He was flexible with us based on our daughter's needs so we could do meals and excursion around her nappies and naps. The car was comfy with a decent infant seat. All the food recommendations had amazing views. Of our 3 meal stops, one was ok for the food quality while the other two were really wonderful quality food at fairly reasonable costs. I would highly recommend the group

Fantastic and once in a lifetime. Meteora rivaled going to Machu Pichu to me. - We had a fantastic tour up to Delphi and Meteora with HP Tours (Hellenic Tours). Our driver Panos was a fantastic guy who provided a great narrative throughout the trip. He was not allowed to enter the sites of the tour (as he is not a licensed guide) but he gave us such great information on the drive it was as if we had a guided tour. He showed us a documentary video on Delphi in the van while driving up to Delphi. He helped us with our bags throughout the tour and took us to great restaurant on the way as well. I would highly recommend Panos as a driver and will request him again should we make it back to Greece. Teh B&B they recommended was top notch as well. I can't say enough about Delphi and Meteora. We had thought that we may not take a tour up to these two sites but were extremely happy that we did. What wonderful sites and great experiences. If you get the chance, do pass it up and use HOP Tours for this adventure. Definitely 5+ stars.

Fantastic tour, highly recommend. Hellenic Private Tours. Well worth the price - What a fantastic tour we had up to Meteora and Delphi through Hellenic tours. Our driver Panos was excellent as he provide some great information on the drive and took care of every detail along the way including arranging the B&B and taking us to two fantastic restaurants. along the way. One was in the town of Delphi and had a spectacular view of the valley and the bay below the town. While he wis not a guide and as such could not go into the two sites he provide a wealth of information along the way that really made the sites more enjoyable. He also showed us a couple of documentary videos while on the drive about Delphi and Theopolis (300 spartans). He was also very helpful with our luggage when we were picked up at the port in Athens, at the B&B overnight and at the hotel when we finished our tour. We looked at tours with a driver and a guide that was almost 4 times this price and I cannot believe they were even as good as this one. I would highly recommend Hellenic Tours and our driver Panos.

Excellent Service - We were referred to HP tours by our friends who satisfied with their service while they were in Athens. Turns out, we had the same satisfying experience! Frank and his staff were very professional, flexible, and provided very quick response to our questions. They even took care our last minute request with no hesitation. They also gave great suggestions to complete our itinerary. We had a smooth and comfortable ride from Athens to Meteora. We also booked the airport transfers to Athens city (both ways) with a competitive price. Our assigned driver, Apostolis, he was the best. A wonderful guy who ensured our safety by driving very carefully. He waited for us patiently after dropping us to the attractions (monasteries, shops, museum, etc) and restaurants. He also shared his knowledge about Greece. He even gave us a small Greece flag as a gift, and on our way to the airport, he gave us baklava pastries for our breakfast as well. Overall, Frank and his team made our Greece trip so great and memorable. We will recommend them to our friends and family, and definitely use their service again if we return to Athens.

Our Tour was Perfect with Hellenic! - It was perfect two days spent with Hellenic Tours. Awesome hotel in Meteora. Very competitive pricing. We were picked up at Athens airport and next day dropped back at Athens airport which worked great for our flight to the islands. The Mercedes van was very comfy with teens who would just hop in the back seat and catch their naps. Our driver was awesome and took us to amazing Greek restaurants we would have never found ourselves. We spent first day in Delphi. It was bit rainy and the driver was courteous to drop us from point to point thus minimizing the extra walking. Meteora is spectacular. If you are going to Greece than it is MUST. Our driver took us to many photo opps in the mountains which kept our teens excited. One suggestion - our Athens flight was at 11pm. We were dropped off at airport around 6pm. We had a lot of time to kill on that day. It would have been nice if Hellenic Tour had suggested a detour to other possible sights. Even if that paying extra.
