Dehradun to Sankri (6,500 feet): Drive 187 KM in 7 to 8 hours
Mussoorie - Traveling to Sankri from Dehradun or Mussoorie is convenient. The journey takes about 8-10 hours, but the breathtaking scenery keeps the excitement alive. The gentle murmur of the Tons River accompanies you as you pass through charming small towns in the Uttarkashi district, such as Purola. As you approach the final 22 km to Sankri, you’ll enter Govind National Park, which boasts a rich diversity of flora and fauna. The enchanting surroundings will refresh your spirit, erasing any lingering fatigue. Sankri, our delightful village destination, is nestled within this expansive park.
Upon arrival in Sankri, you’ll be greeted with stunning views of the Swargarohini ranges. Explore the area and enjoy the captivating sunset against the Himalayan backdrop. After an overnight stay in this picturesque village, you’ll begin the trek the following day with renewed energy.
Sankri to Sikolta (7,000 feet): 11 KM trek in 5 hours
Sikolta to Bhoj Gadi (9,000 feet): 10 KM trek in 5 to 6 hours
Sankri - Today, the journey resumes through the forest, leading to a wooden bridge. Listen to the gentle flow of a brook beneath the bridge as you cross it. After conquering a brief steep ascent, you’ll be rewarded with the opening of the beautiful “Karsu Thatch.” This lush area is abundant with yellow wildflowers. An abandoned wooden house adds a postcard-like charm to the scene.
The path ahead is adorned with rhododendrons, leading to a stunning meadow of lush green grass at Bhoj Gadi. With snow-capped mountains and vast grasslands as a backdrop, this is one of the most picturesque campsites on a Himalayan trail. The campsite offers breathtaking views of the Kedarkantha and Swargarohini peaks. Stroll through the area, which features a fascinating arrangement of stones and logs. Immerse yourself in the serene surroundings and let the meditative ambiance of the place envelop you.
Bhoj Gadi to Pushtara via Phulara Ridge: 6 KM trek in 4 hours
Sankri - Start the day with a dazzling sunrise and prepare for the trek’s most significant day. After an hour of trekking from Bhoj Gadi, you’ll descend to the iconic Phulara Ridge. Its narrow edges slope into valleys on either side, offering panoramic views of some of the most enchanting Garhwal Himalayan Mountain ranges. The sublime beauty of the renowned Swargarohini, Kalanag, and Bandarpoonch ranges, among others, will leave you in awe.
After crossing the ridge, you’ll descend into the picturesque expanse of Pushtara Bugyal, known as the Pushtara meadows. A pleasant walk amidst these verdant greens is a welcome change after the exhilarating climb. The area is home to a rich variety of flowers, including the Brahmakamal and Fankamal. With such an abundance of beautiful flowers, the Phulara ridge lives up to its name. Keep an eye out for the rare Monal pheasant, the official state bird.
Pushtara to Taluka: 5 KM trek in 3 hours, 10 KM drive to Sankri
Sankri - Today marks the descent back into civilization. As the trail continues, you’ll head toward the village of Taluka. After crossing the lush Pushtara meadows, you’ll pass through verdant forests and continue along the trail. Along the way, you’ll encounter plenty of beautiful yellow wildflowers, reminding you of the wonderful memories made during the journey. You’ll also spot groups of ‘langoors’ playing and moving through the trees, providing a delightful spectacle.
During the final part of the trek, you’ll encounter scattered settlements and eventually reach the quaint village. Friendly villagers and curious children may greet you, perhaps asking for a candy or two. This charming Himalayan settlement offers a glimpse into the simple life of its residents.
A vehicle will transport you back to Sankri, where you’ll spend the night.
Sankri to Dehradun: 187 KM drive in 7 to 8 hours
Sankri - The journey back home begins, carrying countless cherished memories and a sense of accomplishment from completing this unique trek. You’ll arrive in Dehradun by late afternoon or early evening. From there, you can arrange your journey back to your hometown. Looking for more adventure before heading home? Consider visiting Rishikesh or Tapovan to conclude the trip on a high note.
