Journey from Luxor to Dendara using an air-cooled conveyance to visit the well-maintained Temple of Hathor, Temple of Isis, and the Coptic Basilica. Your certified Egyptology guide will enlighten you about the primary highlights of the complex prior to providing you extra personal time for independent exploration.
The path leading to the Temple of Hathor is bordered by two Roman fountains, concluding at a grand entrance gate. Hathor, often depicted as a cow or a woman with a cow’s head, was the goddess of enjoyment and affection.
The boundary walls, constructed with mud-brick, can be traced back to the Roman period. Inside these walls lie the temple itself, two birthing houses, a Coptic Basilica, a healing center, a sacred body of water, and the Temple of Isis’s Birth.
The temple has a rich history; records show that it was reconstructed by Pepi I during the Old Kingdom. Other references mention refurbishments done by Thutmose III, Amenhotep III, and Rameses II and III during the New Kingdom. And further enhancements were made over the successive Greek, Roman and Ptolemy eras.
