Golden Temple - Harmandir Sahib, also known as Harimandir or Darbar Sahib (Punjabi: “Sacred Audience”), is the main gurdwara, or house of worship, of Sikhism and the most significant pilgrimage site for Sikhs. It is located in Amritsar, Punjab, northwestern India.
The original Harmandir Sahib was constructed in 1604 by Arjan, the fifth Sikh Guru, who intentionally placed it at a lower level so that even the humblest had to step down to enter. It features entrances on all four sides, symbolizing its openness to worshippers of all castes and creeds. The foundation stone was laid by Mian Mīr, a Muslim saint from Lahore (now in Pakistan). The temple was destroyed multiple times by Afghan invaders and was finally rebuilt in marble and copper, overlaid with gold foil, during Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s reign (1801–39), earning it the name Golden Temple.
Jallianwala Bagh - Jallianwala Bagh is a site of historical significance due to the massacre carried out by the British Army under General Dyer’s orders. In 1951, a monument was erected in Jallianwala Bagh to honor those who lost their lives. Many tourists visit this site to pay their respects to the victims of the massacre.
