Additional Information

Gorée Island, recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, has a significant historical role in the slave trade, operating from 1536 to 1848. During this period, it served as a central shipping point where 15 to 20 slaves were sent off to the Americas. The Portuguese initiated slavery on Gorée Island in 1536. Here, a visit to the infamous SLAVES’ HOUSE and its well-known ‘DOOR OF NO RETURN’ marks a significant chapter in human history. This doorway symbolically represented the final point of connection for slaves with Africa, their homeland. The site offers insights into the maltreatment, subjugation, and brutality endured by Black people for nearly four centuries at the hands of slave traders and their accomplices. Furthermore, a visit to Dakar sheds light on the hidden gems such as: The Monument Of The African Renaissance, The Museum of Black Civilisation, the presidential mansion, Senegalese infantry square, the Independence Square, the former railway station, Soweto square, the obelisk monument and the Divinity Mosque.
