A distinctive feature is the cloud cover, which typically rests at mid-mountain height, leaving the peaks perpetually visible. The area is renowned for its pristine pine forests and was once the site of a luxurious French resort established in the 1920s, featuring 200 villas, dining establishments, and social clubs. Its mild climate, untouched forests, and breathtaking vistas of the East Sea and the Lao mountain range made it a favored escape for the French and affluent Vietnamese.
