  • The climate in our country is very variant and does not consider the normal 4 seasons. Here, in just one day we can see all of the seasons! And this is why we recommend our visitors to be prepared for any occasion, either for rain or sunny days.
  • A very important factor which alter our world is global warming, which has evolved into a high risky contributor due to the glaciers melting in Peruvian Andes, and it also affect the normal development of our weather.
  • Nonetheless, something that is very marked in our country and in some cities here in the Andes is that we only have 2 main seasons during the year:
  • Dry Season: We consider the dry season from the end of April until the end of September, in this period the first rains will start. For this reason, this is the best time to visit our region and our amazing Machu Picchu and also avoid any inconveniences.
  • Rainy Season: This season starts on October until the end of April approximately, so during this time it is advised to all of our visitors to pack their belongings into waterproof bags, as in our region it can be sunny the first 2 hours and then have a heavy rain.
  • We know that there are extreme climates worldwide, but this must not stop us from our longing and desire to explore the world, to discover marvelous cultures and interact with them. Be welcomed to Perú and Machu Picchu.

Use Kenko tours. Excellent planning and guide. - Elvis was our guide and we were glad we choose Kenko. First, he met us the night before to give us a briefing about what to expect and what we needed to bring . Glad he did. We didn’t have hats and had not thought about bringing gloves and hats. We went out to buy some that evening and was glad we had them as the wind picks up at the top. Elvis has good English and Knowledge. The hike goes up to 15,000 ft elevation. He took care us all the way making sure we stopped when we looked like we needed a break, asking us how we were feeling to check if we felt light headed or had a headache . Although we didn’t use the options did give the choice of renting a horse. Elvis took good care of us and our safety very serious and also had oxygen of we needed it. It was long and difficult day. We are very glad we climbed Rainbow Mountain and went with Kenko tours. If we were staying longer I would have booked him for other tours.

Rainbow Mountain - Beautiful! - We booked Rainbow Mountain with Kenko and did this after our 2 day Inca Trail Hike. Our guide for this tour was Grober. Kenko is a locally owned company and for this tour it was just the 2 of us. You are at a very high altitude, so we decided to take the horses most of the route. This was a big help, because even hiking the short way at the end was difficult because you are at 5,000 meters or 16,000 ft. Grober was a great guide, he gave us information and history of the Rainbow Mountain. This is a relatively new site, discovered in 2015.

Amazing experience! Brilliant and helpful guide! - Elvis was an amazing guide. He shared the history of rainbow mountain and the culture of Peru. He made sure everyone was comfortable with the high altitude and provided support where he saw it was needed. Absolutely breathe taking views and we enjoyed riding the horses provided by villagers. Elvis is also a skilled photographer!

A tough and rewarding hike - After hearing much hype about Rainbow mountain, I decided to hike this the following day after climbing Machu Picchu mountain. The air is thin and the wind can pick up anytime so dress in layers and drink coca tea before arriving here. The hike itself is moderate but because of the high elevation, it may require frequent stops to recharge and carry on. My tour guide gave me an option to do Red mountain if I could make it back on time so I did. I felt Red Mountain (which adds about 40 minutes to the trip total) was more beautiful and much less crowded. Be prepared to pay 10 soles at the entrance and 10 at the top but it is totally worth the price and effort. I felt the tour was nicely organized and punctual. I highly recommend this company again for tours around cusco.

Highly Recommend!!! - Rainbow mountain was so beyond beautiful! We added this tour last minute and did it on our first official day in Cusco! (Not the smartest idea since elevation is super high especially coming from sea level! Even higher than Cusco!) We met up with Elvis (one of the guides from Kenko) the night we arrived in Cusco. Having so much experience with tourists in the area, he recommended, since we were coming from California and not acclimatized to the elevation, to use horses at Rainbow mountain and that was the best decision! Instead of being passed out on the side of the mountain like so many people, we were able to experience and enjoy Rainbow mountain! Our guide Franklin even had an extra oxygen tank in case we needed it. Not only is everything planned so smoothly by their team, the guides and drivers are the sweetest people on the planet. Franklin was so funny and made us laugh constantly and he so knowledgeable about the mountain. The whole time you could sense how excited they were to share their beautiful country with us which often isn't seen being an American tourist in other countries. I would highly recommended this tour company for anyone looking for private services that exceed expectations at every level. Oh and best part is, the guides are the best photographers so you will for sure go home with some amazing memories!
