Waqrapukara is derived from the Quechua language, where ‘Waqra’ signifies ‘horn’ and ‘Pucara’ denotes ‘fortress’. It is also referred to as Llamapuka by the local inhabitants and watchers, who interpret the shapes not as horns, but rather as the upright ears of a llama, signaling the arrival of strangers.
