Additional Information

We’ll get ready to our first visit of the day to Moray Terraces. Mostly consisting of several enormous terraced circular depressions, the largest of which is about 100 meters deep. but their depth and orientation with respect to wind and sun creates a temperature difference. This large temperature difference was possibly used by the Inca to study different climatic conditions on crops. Moray was perhaps an Inca agricultural experiment station, it also got a sophisticated irrigation system.

Continue our day visiting Maras Salt Mines. During the pre-Incas time, salt has been obtained in Maras by evaporating of salty water. The highly salty water has been flowing from this nearby stream for hundreds of years. As the salt water becomes supersaturated, salt crystals begin precipitating out of the water. The farmers then scrape the salt to the side and collect it once a sizable amount has been gathered. There are more than 3,000 salt-pools.

Unforgettable visit to Sacred valley and the Rainbow mountain - We took the private tour with Richard to the Ollantaytambo, Moray, Pisac, and the Maras salt. The van was very comfortable and he is a safe driver. His English is very good and he is very knowledgeable about the history of all the sites. He took us to all the places before the crowd started coming in which was really great! He was very flexible in customizing the tour to our needs. We liked him so much that the next day we took a hike to the Rainbow mountain with him. Since, the air is very thin at that altitude, Richard carried oxygen with him for us to use whenever we needed it. We didn’t have too much time and didn’t want to hike so he arranged horse ride for us to the mountain. He got us to the base of the mountain at the right time before the crowds got there and it became too sunny. He also takes tours to other South American countries like Bolivia and Brazil. I highly recommend Richard!!

We went on this tour with Richard... -
We went on this tour with Richard back in early December 2017. While you can certainly find cheap taxis to bring you all around, he gave us a one-of-a-kind experience, driving us through the mountains to each of the sites, pulling over at scenic points along the way to explain more of the history of the land and take great photos. He is so educated and professional, and we not only loved seeing these breathtaking sites but also learning so much about them so they would actually mean something to us. Thank you for a memorable tour!
