Andy of the Andes with Morgan Jauja - Where to begin?  I came to Cusco with few expectations other than to finally tick off the bucket list experience of climbing to the viewpoint overlooking the Lost City of the Incas - Machu Picchu. Warned by many a hitherto visitor that I needed at least two or so days in the historical capital to mitigate the aftershock of the altitude sickness, I looked at ways to pass the time while acclimatising & it is at that point, that I was introduced to Morgan Jauja - it was at that point, my vacation became a real adventure. Morgan is an absolute gentleman - a knowledgeable, humorous & wonderful guide. Who knows & understands the history, the lands, the quirks & the stunning sights of this ancient region like the back of his own hand. And when you consider the scale of the history of this place - and the sheer uniqueness of it - that is a fine feat for the 33 year old Cusqueño answer to Bear Grylls. Have you ever just closed your eyes & imagined yourself horseback in a wild pastoral landscape of idyllic forests, mountains that meet the clouds, freshwater rivers & breath-taking valley vistas - we’ve all had that fantasy/dream at least once in our lives, the difference is that Morgan can make this magic a reality. He’s more than a guide, he’s a master & a magician. We set out on saddle between 3-4k meters above the sea & explored the striking Balcón del Diablo, the impressive secret cave system of the Inca military resistance to the Spanish Conquistadors & the mesmerising hundreds of years old ruins of the Temple of the Moon - all while soaking up the awe-inspiring Andean landscape with many a llama & an alpaca greeting us on this generations old trail.  I should also point out that I haven’t been on a horse in nearly three decades - so for all intensive purposes, I was as beginner as beginners can possibly go.  Morgan was at hand to school me in all things equine - and my trusty steed “Sol Andino” couldn’t have been more of an agreeable amigo with 4 legs. Horseback riding with Morgan is like stepping out of the real world & into the realm of the imagination - except, it is very real & you are left feeling afterwards that you’ve just woken up from a treasured dream. So if you haven’t already guessed, I couldn’t recommend Morgan more; his sheer professionalism, his burning passion for what he does everyday, his shining character & his deep wisdom, coupled with his deep love, of all things Peru, add to the genuine sense that you’ve just had an experience you’re likely to never forget - and I highly doubt you ever will. So giddy up ... .there should be nothing stopping you signing up for this affordable & unforgettable journey into the Montañas with Morgan.
