• Crete - Immerse yourself in the breathtaking panoramas, quaint Cretan hamlets, and delve into the life of a local shepherd by visiting an authentic shepherd’s hut, known as a ‘Mitato’. Our journey commences from the city of Rethymnon, venturing southeast through the picturesque villages of Milopotamos, into regions abundant with lush greenery, fragrant scents, and unparalleled vistas. The splendor of the landscape extends all the way to the storied Halepa Monastery, which historically provided sanctuary to Cretan insurgents during internal conflicts. This is our second stop, offering an ideal vantage point for photography, capturing the lofty peaks of Crete alongside a verdant agricultural valley.
Following this, our extraordinary off-road adventure proceeds, and as we ascend towards the shepherd’s hut ‘Mitato’, we are greeted with a stunning panoramic view. With a bit of luck, we might spot eagles and wild goats, perfect for a photo opportunity. The journey culminates at a traditional Shepherd’s Hut, where you’ll learn about the shepherd’s way of life and the art of cheese production. Here, the proprietor greets us with a welcoming shot of raki and freshly made Graviera Cheese.

Departing from the Shepherd’s hut with appetites whetted, we make our way to a local tavern in the village of Axos. Here, we introduce you to the authentic Cretan culinary experience, complete with an abundance of food, wine, and the genuine warmth of Cretan hospitality. On our return trip, we take a paved road that brings us back to the city of Rethymnon.
