A Journey Back in Time

Our family has always been drawn to the allure of historical sites, and the Medina Azahara Tour seemed like the perfect opportunity to delve into the rich tapestry of Córdoba’s past. As we arrived at the ticket office, we encountered a slight hiccup. The lone staff member, overwhelmed and unable to communicate in English, added a layer of complexity to our start. My Spanish, though not fluent, managed to bridge the gap, and soon we were on our way to meet our guide, Isabelle.

Despite the initial confusion, the moment we met Isabelle, any lingering frustrations melted away. Her enthusiasm for history and archaeology was palpable, and it wasn’t long before we were swept up in her narrative. Her explanations were not only informative but also sparked a sense of wonder in our children, who eagerly asked questions and imagined life in the ancient city.

The museum, with its excellently presented exhibits, was a highlight in itself. However, our engrossing conversations with Isabelle meant we had to rush through the displays to catch our return bus.

Despite the hurried pace, the museum offered a deeper understanding of the artifacts and the historical context of Medina Azahara. My only regret was not having more time to fully absorb the wealth of information on display. As we boarded the bus, Isabelle revealed that we were only her second clients, a fact that surprised us given her expertise and ability to bring history to life.
