WOW - This visit to the Cordoba Cathedral Mosque was a real wow experience. Basically it is a huge mosque that has been developed over the centuries, then when the Christians came along they recognised how unique it was so did not destroy it but rather built a cathedral within it, then to top it off a church was also built in the cathedral area. It is amazing, well worth the visit but take a guided tour to ensure you get the complex history behind it.

Stunning, but you don't need a guided tour - We did not go with this tour group, but we could not find a way to leave a TripAdvisor review that wasn't a review of a tour. This review simply pertains to this extraordinary landmark. Sometimes called La Mosquita is Córdoba’s unique landmark, Our Lady of the Assumption, a cathedral built inside the world’s third largest mosque (after those in Mecca and Medina). The arches of the old mosque section are elegant – large, semi-circular, with horseshoe arches beneath. The effect is beautiful and unusual, not to be missed by any visitor to this part of Spain.
