Once a key reference point for Jews in Rio, it was designed in an eclectic style with Hebrew and classical architectural elements by architect Vodred in 1919. The temple opened in 1932, with mosaics crafted by artist Humberto Cozzo in 1976. Although it collapsed in 1987, it remains open for High Holidays, special events, and tourist visits.
