As a former professional athlete, I’ve always been drawn to the thrill of the unknown, the rush of adrenaline that comes with pushing the limits. So when I heard about the Browns Canyon Rafting adventure in Colorado, I knew it was a challenge I couldn’t resist. My fiancée and I packed our bags, eager to conquer the rapids and experience the breathtaking beauty of Browns Canyon.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the friendly team at American Adventure Expeditions. The check-in process was seamless, thanks to the online waiver we completed beforehand. Our guide for the day, Eric “Tess” Tessier, exuded confidence and expertise, immediately putting us at ease. As we geared up with the provided safety equipment, Tess shared fascinating insights about the local wildlife and the stunning landscape that surrounded us.
Riding the Rapids
With Tess at the helm, we embarked on our journey down the Arkansas River. The water was flowing at 395 CFS, a moderate level that promised a mix of excitement and safety. As we navigated the rapids, Tess skillfully maneuvered the raft, ensuring that everyone on board got a taste of the exhilarating whitewater splashes. His respect for the river and its power was evident, and it was clear that safety was his top priority.
The camaraderie among our group was palpable, with laughter and cheers echoing off the canyon walls. Tess and Kirk, the guide of the other boat, worked seamlessly together, processing the put-in and take-out with efficiency and professionalism. Their humor and positive energy kept our spirits high, even as we faced the challenges of the river.
A Day to Remember
As the sun began to set, we returned to the bus, where Kirk offered us water and granola bars, a thoughtful touch after a day of adventure. We were thrilled with the photos captured at the rapids, a perfect memento of our unforgettable experience. The cheerful sales staff made the purchase process a breeze, and we left with a full set of 14 photos to commemorate our journey.
Reflecting on the day, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to explore such a magnificent part of Colorado.
